You can give it a try - but do find out more about the role first to see if it fits you and you are willing to commit to it. You will be expected to stick to that role for a few years. After that if you feel tired or unsuitable, you can still step down back to your GEO5.
However if you already feel happy in your current position and wish to just continue this way till you retire, then perhaps you shouldn't open yourself to new (and more) job responsibilities.

Absolutely not, especially if it is AYH.
You will definitely exit the system sooner. To me, there is very limited upside. Unless that few hundred bucks a year is critical for you, I would remain a HOT.

Yesterday announced salary adjustments for certain schemes. You think there’s any coming for EOs? Esp since 2026 seems to have increased workload/lean manpower, even after all those talks about reducing workload recently.

Salary adjustment policy discussions do take place for all service schemes, so EOs will definitely be talked about. How big an adjustment though, is really hard to say, especially in an increased-hiring landscape now.

The MOE circular says that there is an ongoing review. It’s at the end of the circular but the details are not finalised.

Depends on role. If AYH, considering your age then no. That role is super demanding on your energy and time.
I know someone mentioned about wage difference being small. But there are two upsides to accepting SH role. First of all, SH/ST has less teaching hours, and from SH it’s easier to go ST (no need to sit in SMC). Nowadays seems more common for ST to come from SH than HOT.
Second upside is if you eventually move to tutoring or open your own centre, then being a former SH lends even more credibility.

Aiya salary adjustment isn’t even necessary if in the first place there is no ceiling.

From what I heard, STs do not have reduced teaching load. They will still have the full load, adding on to being mentors and lead T&L workshops. Otherwise it is hard to justify the subgrade/appointment responsibilities.
