Hi can I check something regarding ICT/reservist
I currently started NIE PGDE and I have an upcoming ICT from 23 Dec to 2 Jan (11 days). I decided to attend since just nice it's during the recess weeks at NIE.
This is only my second cycle and since in the first cycle I was still an unemployed student, I was paid a pro-rated service pay based on the minimum $1.6k.
Now that I am employed in the civil service, I wonder how the make-up pay system works.
Will:
1. my MOE Jan salary be deducted for that 11 days and then MINDEF pay me make-up pay or
2. my MOE Jan salary doesn't change and MINDEF only pay for my service pay or
3. I get double paid (normal MOE salary + make up pay from MINDEF) (highly doubt so lah but hehe if given why not)
paiseh can anyone help me with this thankss

Wanted to ask if a new kp has been asked to cover HOD twice within 2 years, is this person’s CEP at SEO1 or SEO2?

Covering positions has no bearing or implication on CEP.
If there is one HOD Math and one SH Math in the department, and the HOD is away, then the SH is almost always the one to cover the HOD's duties. It doesn't necessarily mean that the SH has higher CEP.

PGDE self-funded
Hi all, I have a question, not sure if you guys can help.
I want to apply for PGDE in NIE directly, self-funded.
Should I be accepted for the course, am I right to say that NIE will be unable to do anything to me if I choose not to participate in any of the “compulsory” events? I mean as in, in contrast to those MOE-bonded students.
Practicum wise, they also do not have a handle over me, correct? I just need to choose a school which I can work with and everything should be fine. I guess the school will also not see any point in making my life difficult since I will not be taking any salary from MOE and will not be their future colleague anyway and thereby not posting a threat to them?

If you are so concerned about MOE "having a handle over you", you should pursue a teaching career in a private/international school or overseas. When you join MOE as an educator you give up a very significant chunk of your personal liberties, and you need to be okay with that to survive and thrive.

Not the OP, and I was also under this impression, but a quick Google has corrected me: there is indeed a route for private, full fee paying candidates.

That said, to the OP, it’s unlikely you get a pick of schools for Practicum. I suggest you email the NIE admissions office directly for better sight of the Practicum posting process (if you do still have Practicum). Note one caveat in the FAQ that you don’t automatically get a job after your NIE diploma program, and importantly, Singapore government schools do not hire teaching staff independently (we are all centrally deployed by HR).
