And I did almost the same thing, doing more than my grade already..
Sadly, they launch the HOD rotation thingy and my HOD gotta leave by 2027, so if i get another toxic HOD I will just leave it all behind.

Are you already a GEO5?

So many teachers here talk about how they work over the hols, how many times do you even switch on your laptop.
Absolutely infuriating as a KP to have my dept people expect empathy for workload when they don't even use their time productively

There is absolutely no need to do any work in Dec during protected time, and teachers should not be faulted for doing nothing in Dec. I’ve been a KP for 7 years and I have never done any work or even switched on my laptop during protected time before. Nor do I expect my department teachers to do so.
If you expect your teachers to do work during protected time, I think you need to reflect on your own leadership and expectations.

Affording a car
This is not really about career per se, but related to teachers.
Of late I have had the luxury of driving a car around for a short time and experienced the comfort and convenience of owning a car. I was thinking of buying a car myself but was wondering if ordinary teachers like myself (non-KP) could even afford it. I’m not looking for a new car, I’m fine with pre-owned cars. For some context, my wife and I are GEO2 and GEO3 respectively. We should be promoted this year to GEO3 and GEO4 respectively. Aiming to start family within next 2-3 years. I am also changing schools soon and the school is currently in a temporary location due to shift back to original location within 4 years.
Teachers who own cars, kindly advise what considerations you have, and whether you think it’s worthwhile to buy a car on a combined GEO3+4 salary.

i can honestly tell u that with kids, a car is really almost a requirement already, especially since both of u are going to have very busy work schedules. and with the reporting time being so early, a car can definitely help u guys get some additional sleep and shorten travelling time
if it's only one car, both of u should be able to handle financially. no need to worry so much all the best to your family!!

If you want any hope of getting enough sleep + sending the kid(s) to school + reporting to work with enough buffer so you're not always in a mad rush before your first period, a car does contribute massively to QoL for your wife and your child(ren). It's going to take a toll on the finances though and you'll have to be comfortable with the opportunity cost; GEO3/4 salaries are not exactly beds of roses yet. Teachers' salaries here are good.. but only after 1x+ years of service and consistent good performance.
