promotion
hi all, i joined the ministry at MX12 even though given my experience and output i should be at MX11. i was new the civil service having previously worked 4 years in private sector in the same field so it was direct relevant work experience. at the point of offer i wasn’t clear on the MX schemes and also didn’t feel like i have a good reason to argue for higher rank since I am new to CS (i am in a ministry). So while I understand that there are some rules for promotion, and that it is basically not possible to be promoted after only 2 years, somehow I have seen people in ministries getting that kind of promotion, especially within my own ministry. so strange… my directors also agreed that my output is definitely above MX12 level but nothing can be done because of the rules, and now i’m thinking that even if i wait one more year, i might still not get promoted and i have wasted three years at this rank when my peers in private sectors are already in managerial roles… 😪 this system, sigh… i actually do enjoy my work environment here so it feels like a pity as i’m considering returning back to private for higher pay + managerial position.

Abit lowball, I was offered MX11, 7020 starting. I just finished PhD back then. They consider the years you spent on PhD as working experience, up to 4 years. No scholar.

If your question is whether you are being shortchanged, the answer is probably no. First, what the other poster said - masters does not add much value in the civil service. Second, salaries offered are calculated based on a formula including factors such as years of experience and also considering parity across similar roles in across the service. So HR is probably unable to adjust their offer. Hope this helps.

Every ministry/statboard has their own hidden rules. But the general rule of thumb is the queue system. Where basically every year scholars will be moved upwards and whatever is left of the promotion quota is given to farmers. How this is achieved is based on if your boss can fight for you as a farmer. There is very little you can do to change this.
If there isn’t any slot and you miss the promotion timing vs your peers, its usually a sign you have reached your ceiling and can thus retire. Hope this helps.

Anyone knows whats the average stat board starting pay for technical roles for fresh grad (did NS)? And if HR asks for expected salary during interview, should I still push for something higher than 4.3k? Thanks in advance

Is your working experience relevant to the role you're applying for?

I previously posted here about being unable to find a job after graduating, finally got an offer after 5 months of sending resumes. Was offered a 2 year contract, with a monthly salary which is way above my expectation but that is including the 13th month salary evenly distributed over 12 months. I have checked, I am eligible for agency bonus and performance bonus during the contract period, and have chance for emplacement after first year of service. I have given verbal agreement to accept over a call, will sign the letter of acceptance and other documents in person next week. Would like to thank you all for all the advices given to help me prepare for the aptitude test and the interviews. God bless.

Congrats! It was well worth the wait.
What sector are you in and what salary were you offered? Is this MX12?
