No mid-year bonus but there's an end-year incentive (usually a bit lower than normal CS end-year bonus)
HQ is also dominated by scholars (some not even as competent as non-scholars but they get promoted much faster)
That's sad. I am not a scholar which means if I enter, I should anticipate lower pay than my peers.

The PB makes up for the lower base pay though. When I left for a ministry, I had to nego for them to match my annual package at AStar.
The most disproportionately paid group is actually those with PhDs but are non-scholars. Even though they have a PhD, they are not paid better nor promoted faster than the scholars. So in the end their years of getting a PhD seem to be "wasted".

I think general perception is that those PhDs that fail to get tenure, are not really creme of the crop. Also their thesis scope is too narrow, and may miss the big picture.

PhD just allows you to apply for academic jobs. The best from top schools get tenure-track assistant profs, then among these, the best who publish get promoted to associate profs with tenure, and so on. A PhD alone just means you're a little higher than a uni grad. So not all PhDs are equal. Public service differentiates all of these

ex-civil servant here.

the answer to your question: it is ILLEGAL to have side-line biz or moonlighting.

your letter of employment shld state so.

technically like SAF 8th hidden core value, "do watever u like, but dun get caught."
bcos if u get caught, u might face disciplinary action or lose your job.

Oh wow interesting. The article mentioned that approval must be sought? What if approval is given as there is no conflict of interest?

Hi, I am a fresh graduate with fch from NTU in computer science.
I want to explore the pte sector for a few years first before joining the civil service or GLC company. Do anyone know, if I were to worked in pte for 2-3 years with pay lower than what is giving to fch in a CS/GLC. will I get paid atleast better than the fresh graduate after 2-3 years of experience in pte? Or do they look at my previous payslip and pay me lower than a fresh graduate?
