Issue 1: Feeling Underpaid
I got hired for technical IT role, but under MX scheme. We work with govtech counterpart doing same job. I recently learnt counterpart got 50% higher base pay....
Issue 2: Under-evaluated
In performance review with RO, he noted my performance is exceptional - best amongst all newcomers. Despite double-hatting appts & OT-ing many days, performance grade will be 'C' as this is default grade for newbie - he said cannot fight for upgrade even though he feels I deserve higher.
Issue 3: Empty promises and no estab
Got hired under SGUNITED contract, new offered contract will only be 1-year extension. Although RO say likely will be perm in the future, is he just stringing me along? He also say suggested potential switch to mgmt track in a few years to come, but not sure if this is just say-say to keep me hanging also.
Should I leave or should I be satisfied with where I am?

Hi OP here, thanks all for advice & motivation - really appreciate the wake-up call that 29M with NS and only getting 4k really ish joke. I am applying for jobs now. Just v frustrated at work cos D, DD, AD all say until I jin good and therefore throw lots of work (technical & non-technical) to me, but never reward with anything other than words. Now that colleague left, like doing 3 roles for price of half.
Some additional information: Was from Private Sector IT sector, but got hired as fresh grad without com sci degree & coding bkgrd which is why I low confidence and settled for less. Have talked to Govtech counterparts but they dun want to offend my side by poaching me (apparently)
My salary history:
Year 1: $3900, no AWS, 0.5mth bonus (low bonus cos American company believe in gd performance reward with increment but not bonus)
Year 2: $4600, no AWS, 0.5mth bonus
Year 3: $4000, AWS, 2.8 mth bonus - switched to ministry, base lower, but overall more
Year 4: pending increment, currently contract-less cos HR screw up on renewal

You may want to try for a startup tech/fintech type place next to get a healthy salary bump esp base wise.

From what i see, it seems like when you signed on to your ministry contract, they only considered you with 1year of (relevant?) experience. As fresh grad, 2.1, NS, should get around 3700-3800 in a normal min. And add on another year of experience, plus bump you into a new MX rank would already give you something more than 4k. That could explain the low 4k salary for a 29yo.

The previous posts all suggest that $5k is super low for someone in late 20s. Then what is the expected salary for someone in late 30s? Is the average performer expected to hit $10k by then?

Late 30s should be nearing 10k liao though base salaries plateau at some point. If you are really average then perhaps 8-9k is a decent mark to aim for.

Average servant would get at least 6k at 35. Probably 7-9k at 38-39

At best 15-16 months total with an average C+ ranking.
