Congratulations. You are a millionaire couple. You are among the top 1% of the Singapore population in terms of net worth. You are so lucky and so you must be grateful. Please help the poor, needy and orphans.

Millionaire couple? Yes. Top 1%? No. The statistics is for millionaire individuals who paid tax.

38/39, $100k per annum income, 2 kids.
4 room HDB flat, paid up. Now worth $500k.
We are planning to buy an EC, selling at $700k.
Taking mortgage loan of only $200k.
We are lucky that we can now upgrade our social status.
Looking forward to move to the condo in 3 years time.

We sold our landed property last year at its peak price. We bought a few years ago at a very cheap price, after that prices went up so crazily for landed properties. So we decided to sell last year. We made a profit of $1m. We then bought a 4 room HDB flat for $400k, paid in full. Together with our cash savings, we now have $1m which we invest in high quality blue chips to get nice dividends.

We are happy we took the right decision to cash out our landed property, now prices of landed properties are crashing. Now we see so many people trying to sell their landed properties but cannot sell because they don't reduce their prices. These greedy people can wait and wait as they watch prices crashing. We think landed property prices will fall by 30% or more over the next 5 years.

With our perfect timing, we can now retire in 10 years time instead of 20 years.

Why wait for another 10 years? You can actually retire in 5 years time. How? Very simple. You can rent out your flat after MOP (5 years). Say you can rent out at $2500 pm or $30k pa. Your dividends let's say give you 4% yield, so you get $40k pa. So in total your passive income will be $70k pa. You can retire like a rich man in JB. When you convert your $70k pa passive income, you get RM182k pa or RM15k pm. You surely can retire like a JB tycoon with that kind of money. You can rent a big condo, drive a big car and can eat at restaurants every day.

We are so lucky as Singaporeans !!!!!

If you are a Singaporean, find a wife fast and buy a BTO flat. Nowadays can buy BTO flat very cheap for $150k +, then after MOP (5 years) your flat value will go up a lot. You can easily sell for $250k +.

If you are a low income couple, you can buy a 2 room flat for $10k only. No country in the world is so generous and kind.
Mind you, not all Singaporeans are as lucky. There is a minority of us who are played out by HDB!!!! I am forever angry to be one of them.

We bought a design and build executive flat direct from HDB in 1996 at $425k (outskirt), no 1st timer grant, waited 3 years for it to be built. Meanwhile, bought a resale 3 roomed hdb flat for $160k, stayed for 3 years and forced to sell at a slight loss when we took possession of our new flat and shifted in 1999.

The resale price of comparable units at our development were as low as $330K through the years and are now around $530k. Valuation had been done by HDB approved valuer.

Why? Why? Why!!!!!! It has been more than a decade. I have no answer!!!! I brought up once, many years ago when my MP came knocking at my door, house visit. Apart from smiling at me, no answer, no reply, just look a little bit surprised at the high price we bought the house direct from HDB.

Why? Still so angry!!!!!

You were forced to sell at a loss. Too bad right? Its bad timing, you knew the risks and you went ahead.

DBSS didn't turn out as profitable as you expected? Too bad right? You expect the govt to hand hold you and guarantee your expected returns? In the market there are winners and losers. Too bad if you are in the loser camp

There are people who are good investors, who timed the market intelligently. And there are people who timed the market wrongly. You and most people belong to the latter group. Not many in the first group, these are the true investors and they are millionaires by now.
