Default Professional Mover

Hi just to give my 2 cents worth.

I would say overall foreign talent is overall the same.

I am a Regional Logistics Coordinator for a global relocation company that has offices in USA, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Europe, Australia, India.

What I have noticed for 2014 (as compared to 2011)

Many Americans are leaving to go back to USA, few are coming here. About 9-11 leaving per month, 4-5 coming here each month.

French expatriate community is growing fast, almost none moving back to France but I have 10-12 households moving here every month.

Australia/UK seem to be fast movers to Singapore as well, averaging 5-6 households here each month, and abt 2 moving back each month.

China has slowed, 2 a month here, 2 a month back.

India has grown much more, 6-7 each month here, 1-2 each month back.

South African, South American, Germans, Canadians, Dutch & Norwegians, very stagnant. Maybe 1-2 move here a month, 1-2 move back.

Japanese & Koreans, we don't cater for that market but my buddy in another compay does. They come 4-5 households a month, 2-3 a month go back.

NOTE: As many "lower-ranked" employees will not employ professional movers such as ours, these are just rough guides to the PMET group of FT that comes to Singapore.
the lower paid employees tend to find their own arrangements for furniture and accomodations, and don't have families.

Default lots of EP getting rejected

Is it just me or the number of EP applications (non-renewal cases) is actually coming down? Over the last 2 months, I applied for more than 40 EP but only 7 have been approved right away. 3 more got approved when we hiked the salary but others are simply not being entertained. In the good old days, when we applied for 40 EP, almost 38 would be approved within 2-3 days.

If you don't advertise on jobsbank first, you simply cannot apply for an EP. Hence all the rejections quoted must be after advertising on jobsbank.

It is encouraging to see that so many EP applications are getting rejected. It means FCF is at work...

i think it is just an indicator as to whether you have advertised in the jobsbank, you can still apply for an EP (remember certain jobs don't eve n require advertising on the jobsbank). So if MOM sees that the company has not advertised on the jobsbank, they would reject it. That could count as some of the rejections

Only in low-paying jobs, the number of foreign workers have decreased.

For higher-paying white collar jobs, the number of foreigners remains the same.

Yes, indeed. From my untested unproven sources, i heard the reduction in foreign workers is only 5%. For the high income jobs, foreigners are still coming in droves. (Or at least no reduction)

ironic thing is singaporeans have been complaining about the high-paying white collar jobs and not the low-paying jobs but they keep like to harp on the low-paying jobs.

for instance I have a friend who is in construction and his company is hit badly by this because of the additional increment they have to pay in order to hire workers from 3rd class countries to do manual labor jobs

nice one. so many FTs or rather expats. They have the housing allowance and even the school allowance provided they bring their families here.

How do we locals become expats in other countries? Which countries would treat us as expats?
