ok that sounds weird but yet polite of them to inform u that they gonna do the reference check

i though they have every right to do the reference check w/o having to get your permission tbh

Sharing my timeline:

Applied on portal: End-Oct
1st Interview: mid-Nov
Screening declaration: end-Nov (a week before final interview)
2nd Interview: end-Nov (HR emailed next day to expedite reference checks)
Reference Check: 1st week Dec (both were contacted by HR via email)
[No updates for 3 weeks]
Status check: Wrote the week of Christmas holidays to ask for status update, and HR doesn't know and have to check with hiring panel.

I am worried that they have not made any decision and my current contract is ending soon, so I'm hoping to sign one and start the year with a stable perm job...

Did HR provide a verbal offer with the salary prior to the reference checks? In my case, after the 2nd interview, there were 2 - 3 weeks before HR gave a verbal offer. It was only after I accepted the verbal offer, then HR did the reference checks. Again another 2 - 3 weeks wait before I received the official offer.

Many staff are clearing leave now so response will be slower than usual.

As for mine, they asked the next day (while calling to proceed w ref check) on the compensation package and brieflly mentioned that they should be able to match my expected!
