Overseas Comp sci grad. No honours, interviewed for tech consulting analyst and software engineering analyst. Offered SW analyst role. 3.2k + 300. Tried to negotiate for higher basic since I had multiple offers (ST engineering, SC bank). They wouldn't budge, just upped my sign on bonus by 3k. Decided to just give it a shot for the name recognition.

When I started, no programming whatsoever. Purely functional (creating functional documents, presenting to clients) which is good I guess, I can transition to business analyst type roles in the future. Am alr planning on leaving in a year once I get my bonus for greener pastures.

Not a correct choice to do that. When you are young, you should gain more technical skills instead. Going BA is a matter of time and its better to do that when a later stage. A technical person can do BA roles, creating functional document but a BA unable to do technical skills. If you stick to this mindset, sooner or later you will be outdated and left with a pool of BA wannabe to fight for job openings. What makes you think that the employer will select you out of the so many BA wannabe?

Its about 40-50% higher, but work hours longer.

I have 5 years IT consulting experience from a big tech MNC and I am rather underpaid (55k per annum). Any idea what kind of salary I can command if I were to get into ACN?

If you have real consulting experience you can easily command double of your current salary.

If you only have "consulting" experience then that explains your 55k annual, and it isn't underpaying.

This is one of those times where I can hazard a guess as to what you really mean by real consulting vs "consulting" experience, but I'd like to play rather dumb on this and let you enlighten me anyway. What do you mean by real consulting and "consulting"?

When i negotiated they also did the same, upped sign on bonus by 3k, and not on other aspects. In addition, when you change jobs, your new pay might be anchored based on your current base pay instead of the "whole pay package". Decided not to give it a shot and went for a data analyst program in a bank. Would consider returning to Accenture perhaps after the program.

Not doing any programming would make it just a functional consultant, hard to standout next time when applying for another role within or outside of accenture.

Accenture pay is quite good but working hours can be very long. like all other tech consulting/SI, they provide very good training and opportunity to learn and practice, at the cost of sacraficing some personal life.
