Your bargaining power is not strong. But u can try to negotiate. It is free and no harm.

Thanks I will give it a try. It's a one year contract job. Let's say if they offer me to continue after that, do you know if there is a possibility of converting to full time? Or usually extend contract again? Also, around how much can I expect to earn after 2 years?

HR would have made it clear to u that it is a fixed term contract.
Based on what i read, your current post is not a permanent estab. In order for u to convert to a perm staff, u will need to convince your Divisional Dir (that's one), and then your Divisional Dir will need to get that perm estab to take u in.
Make the best out of it first. For now, u just have to continue working hard.

Thanks, appreciate your advice! At least for this one year contract, there are still the usual bonuses, though I'm not sure how many months I will get in the end. For another one year contract that I was offered at stat board, there is only a completion bonus of one year.
