Talk abt internship. Heard from diff sources that the present grad recruitment person pales in comparison to the previous one who's now in CC.

I had an interview with them. It was not a good experience.

I was interviewed by 2 extremely young ladies at first and was left waiting for a while before the "boss man" turned up. Said boss man struck me as proud and condescending. I left the interview with a bad taste in my mouth. I informed the recruiter right after that i didn't think it was a good fit for me.

They wanted someone to do legal + corp sec work and didn't want to offer compensation in line with market rates.

I was offered 2 other positions (1 European mnc, 1 US mnc - both regional counsel roles) almost immediately after this interview so it was not a big loss to me. Both companies offered me at least ~3k more than what this firm was offering for my pqe. I was pqe 4 at the time and had 2 years law firm experience coupled with 2 years in-house (as regional counsel with another European mnc) experience.

This was a year before covid so the economy was still pretty good and i wasn't desperate enough.

Mind sharing the comp at these places for 4Pqe?

I also was not terribly impressed by the work quality some of the Australian laterals (although they are very hardworking).
Classic. Aussie grads are generally not as good.

No, I wouldn't say they're generally not as good.

To clarify, two of the Australian laterals were extremely impressive and did make share partner, and the NZ lateral I worked with is very, very good.

I meant more to say that _some_ of the laterals aren't as good, which is always true when you lateral people (and which is why firms prefer to grow their own talent if possible). And to remind people that not just Singaporeans are capable of working hard.

There's no point having a dick measuring contest to look at which country produces better graduates or try to insinuate that Singaporeans are innately better.

If you're bitter about Australian lawyers coming to Singapore and taking international firm jobs ask yourself what experience they have that you do not, and try to get that experience.

Nope not bitter. Have met a few good Aussie lawyers too. But generally local counsel in Aussie and most of those seconded here plus Sg lawyers who did law in Aussie are CMI compared to US, HK and UK counsel.

Not talking about Sg lawyers at all because honestly met my share of CMI ones. Quote the heavens and earth but can’t give you their advice / views.

The experience they have that I do not, is that they talk more than they do and take credit for everything. I will not try to get that experience.

I feel disheartened cause my parents told me my cousin got a job in one of the tech startup and his starting pay is 5.6k fresh grad.

My parents told me I study lawyer only 5k and I overtime everyday.

I feel depressed.
