My wife is a doctor, and yes she earns way more than i can dream of.
Now is salary is your only motivation, please don’t take up the job.
Now when i started out, i was given 4.2k. This was a good 5 years.
My juniors now earn about 3.9k. Yes the industry is too saturated.
It is also dependant on your area of practise. Most commercial lawyers get about there.
Fast forwarding to this year, i earn some where between 6-9k. My wife however is pulling almost double.
Hope this helps you with an informed choice.
Regards.

I was in a similar boat. My partner is in the medical line too, and upon venturing into private practice (GP) for docs after serving the 5 years local bond, it's about 13-16k/month. Docs working in the Gov sector appear to be less handsomely paid in terms of monthly basic, but the bonuses (including sign-on bonus and other benefits like allowances) add up to a hefty amount, so total compensation for PP and G can be quite close, although i hear that things have changed for the worse for G docs. Nevertheless, hours still tend to be better in the G, for most practice areas.
That being said, local law firm salaries are a lot less than those of international law firms. After a number of years in practice, i am thinking this discrepancy may be due to hourly rates/size of deals/partners and type of work. Mid to large sized firms do have plenty of brand name clients, long hours in some firms, albeit seasonal, and fairly decent lawyers, just that clients seem to be sticky on the budget. Happy to hear anyone's thoughts on the above!
In fact, we prob know that if one were to work in a MC or US law firm as a mid level assoc (5-6 year local PQE scale/4 year international scale), the pay is likely to be (much) more than doctors in private, though longer hours.

KCL vs NUS
Dear all have two offers to study law. I am an A level student looking to join. Which should I pick? Appreciate the advice. As I am in NS I still have time. Unfortunately, my parents are poor but I would like a shot at being a UK barrister

Barrister if didn't go to Oxford/Cambridge can wait long long. You have more chance of being magic circle solicitor as non-white. Also make so much more money as solicitor.

I aspire to become a barrister because it is cool to fight in court. But my parents are old and have to sacrifice their retirement money to sponsor me to KCL. What should I do? I only want to go to KCL.

What's the range of starting salaries to expect (average, big 4, med, small firms) for those getting called in 2021/ 2022?

I have been accepted into the JD program at Columbia, New York, Chicago and Stanford. The first three are approved law schools while Stanford is not. I wish to work in the US, and for that reason Stanford is the obvious choice, but I also don't want to permanently bar myself from the Singapore bar (you never know what the future might hold).
What are the chances of getting an exemption for Stanford law school? I imagine Ministry of Law would be aware of Stanford's reputation and prestige, no?
