The fact that people know each other is a non-starter. Is he asking in general? In general, no, he is not going to get retained. COVID-19. Jobs are shrinking.
If it is SPECIFIC. Yes, odds are he will get retained at some firms and some practice areas.
You're at an international tie-up? No, you're not retained, the global outlook is bad. Mid size SG? Depends. Small? Depends. Big 4? Probably.
Corp? No. Liti? Probably, but also depends on the area. The following practice areas are likely to retain: Restructuring and insolvency. Banking. Crime. Family law.

We are in a technical recession. Don't expect high retention rates. Any assessment during COVID is likely to account for the fact that the firm's capacity to retain you is structurally limited. Find a job to ride out the market. The inhouse market is doing well.
You're only at the beginning of a potentially long journey. Don't lose the forest for the trees.

Yup. R&t can’t compare with A&g or Wongp. Having new offices doesn’t make you a good law firm. Their indo office is great though.

R&T has 7 SCs.
Wongp has 3. One is retired, so only 2 left
A&G has 3. 1 in liti, 2 in semi-contentious / non-contentious
Drew has 3.
Please note. If anything the other firms are the Chinatowns
