Civil Svc/ Statboard - Typical Timeline for making a Hiring Decision

Hello all!

My professor got emailed by the statsboard for character referee check few days after my interview. May I know if it is just the routine check by HR for all candidates , or they conduct referee check for the candidate they going to verbal offer?

I do not want to pin my hopes too high , anyone can share? ^_^

I've already signed my provisional offer (awaiting graduation). Throughout the process my character referees were not contacted at all by HR. I put my personal friends as my referees though so not sure if that might matter. My guess is it depends how busy the HR is and if they need some other way to differentiate the candidates apart from what they've observed so far.

I placed my ex-gm and senior manager as referee, they never received any call or email. I gotten the interview call 2 days after closing date and 2+ weeks for job offer (due to cny period).

But they did call me to reconfirmed my current pay breakdown before offer in few days time.

Hope that help, I believe if they do make a check which also mean they are interested and checking can be random. But like you say I don't want to place you too high just in case but I wish you best of luck.

So i presume character referees check is just routine and random regardless of the potential of a job offer?

Usually after interview they will offer within 3 weeks max. If more than 2 weeks, call or email the HR to check the status and show your interest in the job.

Would anyone be able to advise what the HR background checks will turn up?

Will they be able to find out the reason behind the resignation etc?

anyone got govt job through a recruitment agency? what's the process like?

Temp contract roles in Ministry also must wait for few weeks after interview for offer? Or is it straight after interview get verdict?
