Can’t comment on EDB but I heard while more competitive than ESG, the culture there isn’t as cutthroat as ESG.

Like some of the previous posts have mentioned, it’s a pressure cooker because tons of fresh ADPs/DPs are scrambling for high visibility projects and these often involves office politicking.

For example, ADPs/DPs holding high-impact portfolios such as Global Markets/International Desk/Digitalization will have more work visibility than those working in Outreach & Market Connectivity. This results in the former group to move up faster in the career ladder.

Do also note that portfolio assignments is according to the whims of the directors overseeing them (so better angkat well when you’re an MA). It’s not much of a meritocracy lol.

All in all, I’d say ESG has a good mixture of candidates ranging from local uni to private uni kids. Just don’t screw up your case interviews and you’re good. The experience garnered in this agency is transferable to mid-tier consultancy if you do decide to do a lateral jump.

But aren't the progression for MAs standardised?

Why would there be so much politicking?

If you manage to find a job without office politics, please revert back to us

Thanks for sharing! Which industries portfolios are considered 'high impact"?

MA (graduate program) —> Asst Dev Partner/Biz Manager —> Dev Partner/Biz Manager —> Sr Dev Partner/Biz Manager (typical career ceiling for most) —> Deputy Director —> Director

Associate —> Sr Associate —> [insert fancy project name] Specialist —> Dev Partner/Biz Manager —> Sr Dev Partner/Biz Manager (typical career ceiling for most) —> Deputy Director —> Director

Do note that while technically hierarchically lower, some Specialists in ESG earn more than Dev Partners/Biz Managers.
Hello. Do you know many years does it typically take for both track to climb up in rank?

ESG has many 1 or 2 year contract jobs posted recently...are those roles having chances of becoming permanent after 2 years?

Thanks for advice , if anyone knows.
