It depends on how frequent is your job hopping. In 5 yrs u switch 5-6 companies, obviously your potential employer will have qns to ask. But then again if you’re talented and have the skillsets they want you think will have issue? Don’t think too much lol. Employer-employee relationship is just transactional.

Anyway to get scholar-like progression, only way is to job hop frequently. So yeah. You can’t be scholar in your studies, you need to be one in your career. If you aren’t capable enough to job hop regularly then too bad lol.

Job hopping doesn’t necessarily net you a higher salary if you don’t have the skillsets to back it up. You will hit a ceiling one.

So once you hit your L10 promotion you should think about whether you should job hop. Because you will get more out of the 2+ yrs of trying to hit L9 with 2 job hop (1st when you got promoted, 2nd during 2 yrs later).
1. More money.
2. Exposed to different culture
3. Network
4. Skills
But obviously staying for L9 is easier. Just wait for time up lol.

Biggest ******** I've ever read.

For the guy who asked the question, if you want actual advice go on team blind or cscareerquestions subreddit and see what actual 10-20 YOE average devs are saying.

Most of the people here are scrubs or freshers thinking like a typical Singaporean lol

Not even people in FAANG stay long term lol. In fact more people leave FAANG companies than other tech MNCs... since having worked at FAANG is pretty much a golden ticket to a higher paying job at other companies.
Who the heck will want to leave faanf? Trend I see is they stay long term and no job hop.

what fking nonsense... job hop will net u higher salary, what thing skillset? simi sai? u mean leetcode and system designs and some basic questions? if u cannot answer those u are CMI and should just stay at accenture

fresh grads pulling 80-100k annual just by grinding leetcode + system design. think about that and wonder hard why and what makes them different from u. thinking u should stay for internal promotion is dumb af, no wonder accenture people hardstuck 6-7k after 4-5 years then make excuses saying "oh i average dev" LOL delusional

Do job hopping depend on your uni honours or gpa also? Or it depends on your work performance and your individual skill sets + performance at interviews?
Cos if it depends then basically those who graduated with a poor gpa but did well at work and also worked on themselves to upskilling continuously won’t stand a chance isn’t it?

bro... u graduated alr stop caring about your gpa literally once you secured your first job no one gives two shits about it, doesnt matter if you spent 4 years mugging your ass off for fch or you spent it failing your classes. leave that in uni where it belongs.

ofc job hopping and negotiation is dependent on the value you bring whether you are a high performer at your current work env, what are your skillsets you can bring to the table and defo whether you can vibe with the hiring manager, more so than some gpa no one cares about

do u really not know this or do u just wanna seek some kinda validation on it lol

Actually asked around and there were mixed advise with some saying the same as you that uni grades aren’t impt after your first job. But there’s also some that say once you have bad uni grades it will impact you even if you got a job already. That’s why I was worried and wanted to know more. But thanks for your reply!
