In theory the fastest way to reach manager in Big 4 is 5 -6 years, but in reality many people will take longer like 7-8 years or even not able to promote to manager at all. Like previous poster say, if everyone promote to manager so fast, nobody left to do the work already. For every manager you need at least 4-5 associates/senior associates.

If enter as fresh grad, all start at assoc and same starting pay for all functions.
Assoc to Senior Assoc is natural progression, not much expectation differences.

Bro, mgt consulting is advisory for big4. With the exception of Deloitte and now PwC, they brand it as Advisory to void several legal issues following the Enron scandal.
And yes, all roles start off at the same pay with the same shitty hours and shitty hourly pay. Better to join big4 advisory as an experienced hire than to rise through the ranks. Looking at tier2 firms only, Big4 will always advertise if their manager/director/partner are ex-accenture, atk, OW and so on in proposals but Accenture, atk, OW will never advertise that they are ex-pwc/ey/kpmg, Deloitte probably if they were S&O

Someone earning 5k elsewhere with normal working hours has a higher hourly salary than a manager in Big 4 earning 6-7k.
5k / (8 hours x 5 days x 4 weeks) = $31.25/hour
7k / (10 hours x 6 days x 4 weeks) = $29.16/hour

Must also take into account difference in total package. Eg. Big 4 12 + 2 (variable) = 14 months, civil service 13 + 3 (variable) = 16 months. A civil servant can make lower monthly salary and yet still end up higher than Big 4.
