Long Term Unemployment

I've been unemployed for a very long time and it feels like almost impossible for me to find work again that I don't know why people here have this belief that nobody who wants work in Singapore/Asia would be out of work.

It's been 2 years and 8 months already. I first quit my job to follow my spouse abroad for spouse's job posting, and I have been back over a year already and still, I have trouble finding a job.

Any advice for my situation? I am probably the only person here who is in this unique situation.

Luckily my spouse does not get mad at me or pressure me to get a job. Not too much at least. But I just feel that my life has come to a standstill without a job. I feel I should be contributing to the household

I think that there's a similar thread "Anyone been jobless for a long time". How old are u and what's ur educational qualifications?

I am really surprised by the difficulty in securing a good job in Singapore. It seems to be so competitive now with lots of foreigners.

I went to see a head hunter and the woman is from NZ. I worked a few weeks in a really crappy job in what I considered to be a really crappy SME with fewer than 50 people at the beginning of the year and even in that place that I would consider to be a 5th rate god-forsaken loser dump in Redhill, there was a French person working there! That company was too terrible for me to endure and the pay they were paying me was so low, it's lower than what I made about eight years ago so I left.

I've never had this problem before I stopped work, and used to work for a string of reputable companies.

sorry bro, hard truths: u need to start from the bottom again. in employers' POV, you bring no value to the table anymore. u're out of touch. start from contract, part-time, or temp position, slowly prove your worth and work your way up. alternatively, start networking and building contacts with key people in the industry.

How many years u worked before?

Money is not everything. Your hubby already earn a lot at $300k pa so you both have no problems financially unless you want to buy a GCB. If you already own and live in a condo (most Singaporeans aspire to live in a condo as 85% still live in public housing), then you should be happy.

You can make your hubby happy by taking care of his needs, making babies and doing charity work for the needy.

My hubby doesn't make 300k pa. That was just an analogy to ask no matter how well one earns, a 20% boost to the household income by the wife is significant.

He makes $12k as basic with consistent 6-8 months bonuses. We have no problems "financially", we just have this fear that we don't have enough. Thanks guys, I think I will keep on trying to look for a job.

What is ur husband working as? Sales?
