Should university placing holder sign on as regular in RSAF as AFE specialist ME1-1?

Hi

I got an offer from RSAF to sign on as AFE M (specialist) after my BMT.
I did not make it to OCS but I have a local university placing currently. If I were to sign 4 years 1 months as ME1-1, I plan to quit after that and study university at NTU EEE. Is it worth signing on as AFE M (ME1-1) for 4 years 1 months (including 2 years NS)?

do u need the money urgently or to finance your studies ? if so, then go for it.
but before signing on, ask if u can upgrade to officer despite not being selected for ocs. there maybe a chance you can jump since u just finish bmt.

explore going for navy or airforce if possible as well if u intend to pursue engineering as there r more relevant engineering experience u learn there that can be used post service..especially if u r learning eee.

but if no need $ , then why u considering ?
while it is just 2 more years, it is not really considered direct relevant experience unless u join civil service... or companies like ST engineering.

finally, make sure u like what u r selecting if u do go.
there will be times i am sure u wish u could quit, but service in army is service.
u will face long long working hours.....

i fully agree with lazyplane.
since you have a placement with NTU, why not complete ur degree before making a decision?
not too late to join RSAF as a senior ME (ME4) following ur degree, provided ur certificate of service doesnt look bad.
you may change your mind after serving in the service as a NSF, thus dont lock yourself in unnecessarily for 4 yrs and then regret.

also, RSAF is always looking for AFE(M), due to manpower turnover. thus no need to be too concern with rejecting their offer this time. just tell them that you intend to join back RSAF after you get ur degree, may help you in the future.

Yes, if u signed on as ME1, u definitely got chance to transfer to ME4.

Situation A: U super zai, transfer to ME4 after u completed ur ME1 trainee course.
(I have friends who did it. to be exact 3 of them.)

Situation B: U suay, bo bian continue as ME1. but every year they will push those with Uni placing up to ME4 assuming u perform well + pass the interview. This will only happen if ur OC help u!

Situation C: U just continue and complete ur NS. Go to Uni, did well for first term( at least get GPA of 4.5. then u go apply as ME4 airforce engineer and get the mid-term scholarship. u take back a lum sum + bla bla bla la.

Think abt it. anything u can ask me. dont sign str. away then regret.
