Please do not be rude to him. He is just sharing his story. I am motivated by his life experience, in fact he should be our role model. Not easy for someone who has lived the high life, with babes around him, parties, etc. and all, to give up, just so that he can do social work. I salute him. A hero in our midst.

Btw, if you earn $5k and your wife earns $5k, why is it so difficult to service a mortgage of a 4 room HDB flat? Did you buy those resale flats near the city costing $800,000? If so, the problem is you. Should have bought those in cheaper estates costing only $350k. Two years ago, I bought mine in Jurong West for only $300,000.

Word.

Kind of like the resale flat part. Felt the same way.
Singaporeans complaining HDBs cost $1 million when there are $300k HDBs around.

But we don't know if he is the sole earner. If he is, earning $5k is a bit tight.

I'm happy with my life too. Just retired at the age of 48. Owns two condos and earns a passive income of $150k pa. No liabilities. Spend lots of time with kids, teaching and coaching them. We have fun exercising in the condo gym and nice swimming pool. Glad that I had spent my big salary and bonuses investing in stocks and properties. Now can retire at a young age.

I agree with most people's stories here that happiness is definitely more about money. But one thing that is common is that you cannot really escape the tough life of your early career in your mid 20s to early 30s if you really want to escape the rat race and retire to do something that you want to do beginning from your late 30s.

happiness is relative to expectations, i know of a couple who earns less than $2k combined, lives in 3 room flat, but both sons studied till diploma and above, both married, and this couple is pretty content as they know they did the best with the limited amount they had

good choice of words daria, i like your philosophy. how old are you? are you married?
if you are still single, would you like to get to know a close friend of mine, who finds it difficult to find a wife cos he is only earning $2k per month? if you are the kind of rare woman who is not concerned of her spouse's income and wealth, would you be interested to get to know him? he always ask me to help to look around if there are such wonderful ladies still around. thanks.
