To TS, truth to be told, Laselle/NAFA is quite a useless cert.
Are you skilled in CAD software? Career as a CAD drafter can be quite stable. Constantly in demand. Peaks at $4k without much education. A friend of mine in architecture firm says it's hard to recruit, eligible candidates are hard to come by. Some more the boss wants Singaporean. You can try to go into that field.

I know of local poly people applying to MOE as art teachers. You can give it a shot as well since there are shortage of art teachers.

Or have you consider trying to make handphone games in your freetime?
The problem is TS wants to continue arty farty passion in his job and make more money at the same time. A CAD drafter is a brain dead job with little avenue for creativity and decision making, you basically sit in front of a PC, fire up AutoCAD & draw to specs your whole life. You get the same kind of pay ceiling by just being an Admin Exec as well.

TS wants to join MOE at a payscale that is similar to a degree grad from a local uni, i.e. he wants good money in a few years time, not languishing on some poly pay grade.

To put it bluntly, I think this guy is day dreaming. He wants a job that pays well, can give him passion, lead an easy life, work alone no need to play politics and a guaranteed offer once he study his degree. Ain't gonna happen in SG.

To be fair, he's not aiming to earn big bucks, just to be able to reach $3k plus in his 30s. That's not a lot to ask for if he's willing to invest in a degree course?

I think is the government's propaganda in the MSM that says all those thing.

Depends on perspective. It is quite a big jump for him as he is only making $1k plus now. Somemore he wants a job with passion, easy life, work individually without office politic and wants MOE to hire him on GEO 1 payscale just by having few years exp as a low level grunt in some startup. Unrealistic tbh.

We don't need people to repeat MSM nonsense on online forums. And also, taxi drivers don't earn $7k. This has been clarified. The journalist is under fire for running an article without support.

I am the one who suggested TS to go for CAD. My apologies because i don't see him saying he's in game design, hence unlikely to be skilled in CAD.

But making $3k + for living in Singapore is attainable as a CAD drafter. Always in demand, never out of job. For TS, it may be solution for him if he's skilled in it. And since he want zero politics and also work alone, this is the best job for him. Something close to art as well. Admin exec got tons of politics to play with. Been there, done that. Always caught in the middle between two big players and getting scolded either way.

In my opinion it's hard for ts to go MOE as well. Either stay in this job and pray for promotion, switch trades or take up professional courses in other things and find job from there. From an economics point of view, taking a degree does not guarantee you proportional salary increment enough to compensate for the opportunity cost.

Yea, my cousin graduated from SIM Business 5 years ago. Now 32, earning 2.5k monthly.

Degree is not vital for success - khaw boon wan.

Instead of getting a job, why not become a hawker. Read in the papers, more graduates becoming hawkers to replace their retiring parents. If everyone wants to become white collar staff, then who will be the future hawkers? We need more younger people to become hawkers, which can earn good money. Better to be a hawker and be your own boss than being bullied by FT boss.

there is definitely something wrong with $2.5k after 5 years. your cousin needs to take a long hard look at why he's stuck at such a low salary!

You all no need to waste time discussing or advising him lar. TS has abandon the thread and made it quite clear that he dun want to handle the hard truth and prefer to procrastinate and hide in his current 1k+ job waiting for the boss to give him more money.
