Default Is CCA important for job application?

Hi all. This is my first thread in the forum.

I am currently a 2nd year UOL AnF student. I don't have any CCA and most of the clubs are not looking for year 3 students.

I was wondering whether CCA plays an important role for my job search after i graduate. What should i do to make up for the lack of CCA? Should i look for part -time job related to my field of study?

Pls advise.

Yes, provided you are a team rep or hold some position, but usually related job experience trumps CCA. However, there's no strict rule. At the end of the day, its the accomplishment gained whether from the job experience or the CCA that matter, not the particular title.

ie, constructing a model to optimize data collection and creating cost savings of 30% for the company you work for, sure beats being a team member of your football club; and vice versa, being a champion national athlete is better than simply doing data entry in your part-time job.

yes and no. Depends on where you're applying really. But from experience Civil Service tends to occasionally look at your cca records (since they're pretty rigid and strict to follow the 1st class, 2:1,2:2 hierarchy) to see what else they can 'gain' from you.

I got called for an interview by a stat board simply because they found the talents that I used in NS (police) very related to the job (law & statute policy work).

First job yes. Subsequent no.

Interview for first job can get as dull without cca and other stuff to talk about.

Subsequent jobs would mostly be talking about your job experience rather than your cca alr

Good to have, won't lost out if don't.

If you want to bank on CCA, make sure you try your best to executive roles. But never choose CCA over schoolwork. Must juggle time really well. If it doesn't work, quit the CCA.

We are just talking about practicality. But if you are talking about leading good and exciting life it's another issue all together. I believe one should join CCA for experience and friends, but the pragmatist nature in me often tells me that it's either executive position or naught.

it depends on the job. if the job requires u to demonstrate outgoing personality, ability to organize and lead events etc. then yes, having relevant experience via CCA is likely to be helpful.

For all other jobs, be it private or public, it does not matter.

In GENERAL, for fresh grad..

public:
grades (and the uni) > internship exp > CCA > student exchange

private:
internship exp > grades (and the uni) > CCA > student exchange

for the more demanding ones, internships and grades are equally impt.

in both cases, having a powerful connections will be extremely helpful.
