2022 Practicum - GEO 2
2023 Promited - GEO 3 (B for '22)
2024 - GEO 3 (C+ for '23)
2025 - GEO 3 (B for '24)
2026 - GEO 4 (A for '25)
I have heard that the CEP system has been phased out and to promote, you will need to take on roles. But with the MM level already so saturated even for non-IP roles, I find it quite hard to take on. Just wanted to ask for some advice. Thanks!

Are you ready for KP roles in the first place?

Change schools if you have to. I did my practicum in 2024. Was from the army. Got headhunted for AYH role this year.

I was asked by SL to work on an area this year. (Non IP area that has seemingly not been focused on in the school for the past few years) I see it as a way of grooming me into that position while getting me to understand the hard work that goes behind a KP role. It has kept me a lot more busy this year but I find it very fulfilling to do. Getting to work with many more MMs this year and teachers in the school to build positive relations has also been encouraging.
Just keeping my options open and am giving it till end 27 while understanding I may have to change schools/HQ if vacancies are limited.

Non-IP work =/= KP. Busy & fulfilling =/= KP. Networking =/= KP. You could just be an IC of a comm for these. It's impt to learn the basics, there's no rush for promotion cause eventually you'll get stuck. Let's say you become HOD by mid thirties, then what? Are you keen to be VP? P? Supt? What's the odds you will be a ZD? How many years will you get stuck at each position if you promote too fast?

KP entails leading people who you don't get to choose, who may not want you to lead them. KP means doing less of the actual work you enjoy and delegating them to your (sometimes unwilling) team. Are you ready for that?

Maybe you can share more on which Non-IP area is that? Because some up and coming will be like e.g. HAL in Pri schools. With GEP phasing out, schools are transitioning from HAL as a project team/comm, into a proper department. A few schools already has SH HAL or even HOD HAL to work on these areas.
KP-ship can be coined by SLs in the school actually. But there must be a need for that area to be helmed by a team, led by MM.
So maybe you could shed some light on what you are currently doing, IC-ship or heading a certain comm etc. so we can also share our experience and offer suggestions.
Aside from that, would be to speak to your RO or even SLs about advancement. Given that you got an A most recently, definitely something already sets you apart from the other GEO 3s in your school. As you enter GEO 4, make it known that you are keen to take up KP-ship, and see what is the response.

Thank you for the detailed response! It is under the umbrella of ICT. I expressed interest when I was in GEO3 last year (of course knowing that I need to be GEO4 to take on any kind of KP role). My RO had a conversation with SL and this was how it came about. It isn't really on paper like I am an IC or anything but it is tied to my coordinatorship; I can see that SL is guiding me on this area of work while trying to get me to work with different people and getting me to see the people management part and how difficult it can be. My learning curve is very steep but I am very passionate and heartened to be given the chance to help out in this area.
In response to other replies, of course I still do really love teaching and spending time with my students. However, I also need to think of my career prospects. To me, trying to get promoted earlier and hitting the ceiling faster isn't really an issue. I am ready at this phase of life to take on more and feel I should do it now that I can. Definitely not letting all the additional work affect my T&L in any way because I agree and know that's the most important.
