Do be aware that MOE has slowed down progression for the average EO drastically compared to 10-15 years ago. This is not a HR statement but just observations from the ground in various schools/branches/divisions.
Waiting for 3-5 years to be promoted from geo2 and geo3 seems to be the new normal, as is 5-10 years to be promoted from geo4.
Also, the job expectations and demands have expanded significantly, and many average-performing officers will also feel that they are working extremely hard to meet the modern-day demands.
What I'm trying to say is that you may feel like you are putting in a lot, but still need 8 years to be promoted from geo4 to geo5, receiving mostly C grades and the occasional C+, but this is NOT being "burned". It's average and there's nothing wrong with being average.

I don't think 5 years for GEO2 to GEO3 will be a norm...it will scare away fresh grads? Maybe 3 years or so?

yup, guys with NS will still get promoted from GEO 2 to 3 in 1 year. Females will take 2-3 years.

There can be anomalies to this already. I have seen it in my school too. Guys who graduated in 2023 May PGDE, but only promoted in 2025 Apr or 2025 Oct (instead of the typical 2024 Oct).
So while the above can be the 'norm', it doesn't apply to all. In the past it is quite standard, PGDE or BA BSc guys with NS, will be promoted from GEO 2 to 3 in that 1+ year (Oct of the following year from grad). Now I wouldn't say for sure.

Is this likely for an average person, based on the posts in the last few pages?
Average pace (exclude UT and NIE):
Y1 - GEO2 (trained)
Y2 - GEO2 (trained)
Y3 - GEO3 (promoted)
Y4 - GEO3
Y5 - GEO3
Y6 - GEO3
Y7 - GEO3
Y8 - GEO4 (promoted)
Y9 - GEO4
Y10 - GEO4
Y11 - GEO4
Y12 - GEO4
Y13 - GEO4
Y14 - GEO5 (promoted)
Y15 - GEO5
Y16 - GEO5
Y17 - GEO5
Y18 - GEO5
Y19 - GEO5
Y20 - GEO5 (likely to hit ceiling here?)

Getting promoted in 5 years to GEO4 and 6 years to GEO5 is considered fast. I have many colleagues who have taught for 15 years or so and they are not GEO5.
