That rule is just for formality.

Is not for formality. If you say that you really need additional income for genuine reasons (like supporting medical bills of family members, then I don’t see why SLs will reject.)

And if you don’t declare, you are liable to face disciplinary consequences if you are being found out. This is worse.

My P is pretty open about it since 2020 when the rule came into effect, she told us to tell her then declare on HRP and mostly she approve

It depends on a lot of factors. Whether you are a HOD or SH, your years in service, your years as KP, performance, scholar/not scholar, CEP.

Mine was 5 but I have seen as little as 3 years and as many as 8-9 years.

It also depends on when one is appointed. Generally, those appointed later in their career tend to get their SEO faster (think of it as something to do with their "lesser runway"). But yes, many variables so, its complicated.

Wow, for a SH to be on GEO5 for 8-9 years can be very demoralising.

By the way I am asking cause I see some of the KPs got promoted to SEO1 within 2-3 years while the longest took 6 years so far.
