The problematic people are No. 3 and 4, who are usually the same people.

asians dont normally talk bout pay matters among frenz, colleagues. i happen to be someone that feels that this info can be openly shared and discussed, esp in this difficult economic environment, the more relevant all this info is.
not too sure what your response means, and am not going to start another verbal war becoz i feel that is really time-wasting. but i strongly feel that everyone has a right to post whatever he wants to on this forum and has every right to know more. my addage is if you dont like what you are seeing, then dont see it.
cheers,

What talking you?
All I did was to make an observation of how this cycle has been repeating many times. When did I say people can’t write what they want?
You best follow your own advice, “my addage is if you dont like what you are seeing, then dont see it.”. You can agree with me if this pattern is true, disagree and say why or just ignore me. No need to start verbal vomit about “purpose of forum”, “right to post” or “Asians don’t talk about pay matters” etc, what has that got to do with my comment?

Hi guys,
Im oso 30, from banking & just to add my own perspective for the benefit of everyone.
6.8k/mth for 30 Yr old is definitely good in banking & not the average..(that is, if this is base pay and a non-sales role) It is also not very common for someone to get a promotion within 2 years (at least from manager to AVP level), barring lucky cases, and management associates etc. Those in finance industry will know that some foreign banks increased their base salaries across the board 1-2 yrs back, when their governments wanted to clamp down on bonuses.
Result is many are getting higher base salaries but only 0-1 mth bonus.
As for me, when i was 28, worked in brokerage..basic less than 3k. But gross incl. commission abt 6k/mth.
Now in bank, basic only 3.5k, incl. allowances gross abt 4.1k only. Bonus hard to say. U do the math.
So moral of the story is..
1. Read everything with a pinch of salt..it's like reading fine print in off balance sheet financing (accounting 1101)..and annual income is more accurate than just base salary.
2. Not everyone makes big bucks in banking.
Appreciate everyone's sharing!

I am in banking 31 this year and drawing ~5.4K, middle office role, I have other banking peers of the same age drawing 6-7K..but overall i feel that is a pretty comfortable amount.
I hope to hit around 6k with a promotion next year or the year after (so i will be ~32/33 yrs old) and after the promotion i will leave for another bank and ask for 7K..and then from there on..will just see how it goes i guess..

That's a typical benchmark in banking but also, typically, the end of the road.

That's not a feasible benchmark in engineering, unless you change profession.

I think feedback from this forum is more or less reasonable.
I know graduates like me in my late 20s, earning a wide range of income.
For salaried, I know people who are earning 3+ to 14k+ (although I have to admit 3+ is quite rare now...).
For business owners, I know people making $600/mth (barely able to survive) & 10 million+ a year (dun be surprised about people making multi-millions a year, I know a handful, and they've appeared in the papers... although I find it hard to imagine them coming into the forums and boasting around).
I think all these figures are good to know, but at the end of the day, you need to love what you do and be able to look beyond the salary...if it is about a few thousands differences...is it really that important to compare?
I observed that those too caught up with salaries , they seem to lack passion and focus....going wherever the money is, in the end, they'll always be stuck in a job and going nowhere.
If money is main motivation, go for commission based jobs. IF you're that hungry for money, you can sell anything.

Nah, the chances of finding a decent paying job that you really have passion is about the same as a girl marrying rich husband – there will always be a few successful cases here and there, but for most of us the activities we truly have passion in is not something that we can do to make a decent living.
I prefer to go where the money is and use the money to pay for activities that I have passion in.
