What do you do if you dont have any reference contact to give for a new job asking for it?

Just normal resign and didn’t keep in contact with previous employer.

Then you are screwed

Just drop a message to ask, never hurt to just try asking.
They may be surprised or even honoured, most will gladly help you.

The most they can do is say "No". But if they say "Sure", you will have so much more to gain. Just be sure to keep in touch with them goingforward/thank them for their help.

For certain industries like big 4 and banks their HR do communicate with one another.

And they will call up one another to verify your past employment information etc.

If you done something wrong, it's high chance they will find out if you have worked in similar industry

My ex companies are very irresponsible, just ignore reference check email from my new HR. So i just provide them all the email and hp numbers to spam call. It's like a template already. I note down all the HR contacts before my last day.
