Websites like shopee etc only needs maybe 10 engineers at most to maintain and build new features once in a while (if you've built a web-app before, you'll know is not that hard.). The site is already built, the APIs are already there. Right now , they have thousands. And this apply to many companies, not just Shopee.
When these companies realize they don't need thousands of engineers, and start firing them, you'll end up with hundreds of thousands of engineers in the SEA market, maybe even millions, and like less than 1000 opening.
Median pay is dropping to 2500 SGD per month for fresh grads. Remember when Oil and gas was hot, finance was hot? Same cycle happening to tech. Welcome to reality people.
But all hope is not lost, 2.5k SGD per month can still survive, with rent, eat cup noodles and weekend do grab-food.

He just speaking the truth. People think they can earn 6 digits annually just cos they know how to write React code and make APIs, both of which can be learnt in under 2 weeks from and documentation. LMFAO!

It's actually true. Try WSO, efinancialcareers, reddit. What the guy saying about trading pay being that outrageous is true, but only at top firms like Citadel/JS/Jump/HRT/DRW. It's not a secret. Whether OP really works in that field tbh doesn't really matter, noone can prove/disprove it and quite honestly noone cares.

ahahaha classic Cool Story Bro. let me humour you for a sec.
the reason why oil&gas fell off is because of the underlying shift of mindset to favor green energy solutions. not because its a "cycle" that has to happen like the business cycle.
finance, particularly front office, is still hot rn so idk what point youre trying to make here.
s://.businesstimes.com.sg/government-economy/government-to-spend-s38b-in-ict-in-fy2022-80-of-contracts-open-to-smes , Singapore is committing more funds YoY to ICT spending to develop tech solutions and that is purely within the context of public service.
sure, maybe a few years down the road some new tech (developed by programmers btw) could render all programmers obsolete (LOL) but ok lets say this happens. then sure, we could see a burst like in O&G, but look at the news sources we have now. u mean to tell me the govt is gna reverse all of that spending and suddenly go the opposite way? after committing even more YoY?
from everything else you've typed, i gathered you put together some code for some hackathon or webapp or wtv but i can guarantee you've never shipped code LOL.

Is like a group of house builders hired by a family
The family needed the house to be built within short period of time, hence they hired 100 builders. Once the house is completed, they only need 10 to maintain the house now and then, maybe another 20 builders to build the decorations
What happened to the other builder are not the end of the world. They can always look for new family who want to build their house
The issue is with recession coming, not many family can afford to do that.
The only one that needs to cry is the fake builders who attended 2 week building class and manage to get a good paying position while the other 1000 builders don’t make his lousy work standard stand out
But the moment the other strong builders are not ard, the lousy one will show his true ability and lose the job

yOu'vE nEver sHIPpEd CoDe. Classic strawman argument, with no meaning or logic behind it to back it up. I've been in the industry long enough. Let's be real, you don't need 10000 engineers for a web app like Shoppee. The amount of engineers that's in the market, realistically, you only need 10% of it. Government is also investing money into green initiatives, you don't see ****ing green energy jobs being hot and popping out everywhere right? Same applies for tech.
From everything else you've typed, I gathered that you're probably a FAANG reject working in a low tier tech company. Perhaps even a WITCH company.
