One Balestier

At 1 Balestier Road / 3 Tessensohn Road, a very interesting semi-conservation project is being developed by Oxley Amethyst, a unit of Oxley Holdings. This is the 1953 mixed development, comprising 58 residential apartments and 14 shops. The interesting part is how well the architects (Park & Associates) have merged the 7 units of shophouses that were built in 1953, with the new building.

This echoes the Art Deco elements of the shophouses, like its streamlined design, and strong vertical and horizontal lines so well, that the entire 1953 development is a cohesive whole. The shops and residential units in the old shophouse section is called the "Heritage Collection" while those in the new part of the 1953 mixed development will be known as the "Modern Collection". On the ground level are 7 shops in the "Heritage" section, and another 7 shops at the ground level of the "Modern" section.
