It depends.

INSEAD or Chicago GSB. Hands down, if you are young and still trying to climb the rung of the corporate ladder or switching to management.

If you are a veteran (director or VP) with years of experience under your belt from big MNCs, it doesn't matter which MBA you go for. (Why are you doing it anyway unless you are gunning for academia?)

What about mid tiers like Manchester or NTU or NUS? Consider the opportunity costs. Time and Money are absolutely critical at this stage. You will NOT do another MBA, and this will set you back by 2 years and quite a sum of money at this time. ( I assume you are mid/late twenties or early thirties..)

How about low tier MBAs? Don't bother.

I have not interest in doing MBA at all. However it seems like everyone has a minimum degree now, having an MBA will make survival better

NTU or NUS is not for me, I don't belong to the studying type, too much theory

For that matter, what about a PhD then?

Also: I strongly believe in the report in Straits Times a while back where people tried to take MBA in order to switch to a managerial position of the same level as their current professional jobs... & to their disappointment, companies are recruit on BOTH experience and qualifications...

It's a rather sad reality...

yes this is the reality! got paper not experience = NO USE

If you work in MNCs you will know that got paper and experience maybe = NO USE too! Its about boot licking!

yes reality is very harsh

1) MBA is a long-term investment, you will see the real value of the degree when you're in your 40s~50s (but for some people faster)

2) Good for career changers, only those who are also risk-takers. (requires a lot of risk taking if you're to give up 2 years of income and then looking for a change of career after you graduate, not knowing whether you'll succeed)

3) Yes, there're many successful people without an MBA or equivalent degree......and you can also argue that paper degrees will not lead u to riches.....but it'll certainly add value to you in a long run

I always wonder why people are repeating what doesn't work again and again. School does not teach us to be wealthy, be it UNI or MBA. Look at Bill Gates he is a university dropouts and where is he now. Isn't it time to rethink what we should do instead of paper chase.

glenn, I'm not encouraging any forms of paper chase here but just stating my view on the topic.

In a competitive asian city, I believe having any additional papers/certifications is better than none. an mba is worth going for if your financial capacity allows it (expensive tuition, long period without income, etc). so are other papers like cfa/cpa/frm/cisco/etc if you think investing in one (both time and $$) will make you more competitive.

and also the continuous reminder that Bill Gate is a harvard dropout but yet so successful doesn't really proof your point. Gates made it to harv, but CHOSE to drop out b'cos he has a brilliant business idea/plan.....which is time sensitive and would not have made it if he waited till graduation. so are many of the other entrepreneurs/ techopreneurs

Many of the asian godfathers (li kashing, Lee shaukee, kuok, etc) do not have much education but made themselves billionaires, even our own creative's sim do not have college degree.......so shall we go around telling others not to get additional educations?

Just remember... how much you worth for the salary is determined by the experience you have, the track records and whatever paper you need to have.

If any school try to sell you an MBA and promise you of a ROI, make sure you sign a contract with them for compensation if it did turn out this way...

If it is too good to be true... , it is!!!!

MBA is just an entry requirement for certain job... just like PMP (very much hypes noswday).

Just my 2 cents.
