Default Highest paying jobs

You can find in today's Straits Times a list of the top 5% highest paying jobs. The list, which is based on a Manpower Ministry's report, is not very different from what I posted in my last year's top 100 jobs post.

Here's the list (the figures are median monthly gross wages*):
Quote:

- Specialised surgeon - $12,750
- Managing director - $12,000
- General manager - $11,200
- Commodities futures broker - $9,500
- Company director - $9,000
- Hydrographic surveyor - $8,960
- Financial futures dealer and broker - $8,348
- Treasury manager - $7,600
- Risk management manager - $7,500
- Legal service manager - $7,304
- Securities dealer and broker - $7,000
- Legal officer - $6,637
- Finance operations manager - $6,350
- Engineering manager - $6,261
- Research and development manager - $6,187
- Foreign exchange dealer and broker - $6,080
- Advocate and solicitor - $6,040
- Creative director (advertising) - $6,000
- Computer and information systems manager - $5,987
- Computer operations and network manager - $5,866
- Technical manager - $5,800
* The wages consist of only basic and gross monthly wages, and exclude bonuses and profit sharing.

Many are claiming their income higher than the real thing? What is the standard deviation of the mean?

Masindi, the figures were extracted from CPF. I do not have any info on s.d., but I think it can be calculated. I should do that one day.

Alamak! My job's pay moved from "Securities dealer and broker" to become "Technical manager" due to Lehmann crisis... Arghhh...

5% highest paying jobs? How come Scholar's superscale SR9 not inside? Hmm... maybe they are (immortal) out of the (mortal) bell curve...

This survey is not accurate at all. Occupation like pilots, management consultants, investment bankers, are not in the list. I am quite sure that there are alot of surgeons, lawyers, bankers and traders that make much more than just $12750. Else how can they afford those expensive cars like lamborghini, ferrari, porsche, maserati, BMW and merz with just $12750.

A good example will be this private banker, I don't think even with a monthly salary of $20k can afford a lamborghini, Porsche Carrera and BMW M5.

The fast and the modest?

Rubbish!

Well, the average income in Singapore is about 3k. How is it possible that people can afford to buy cars, LVs and condos? That's because 3k is the average. At one end of the spectrum, you have people living in extreme poverty. At the other end, you have the super rich who buy lamborghs.

Similarly, the list above is just a list of professions that are sampled by the ministry. And the quoted earnings are median earnings. In case you've forgotten your maths, "median" means "in the middle". If you line up 100 specialised surgeons by their pay, the middle one will earn that $12,750 quoted. The best one may earn 1 mio or more, like those plastic surgeons and heart surgeons. And they are the ones who drive the lamborghs.

When you don't know what you're talking about, anything is rubbish to you.
