Talking

what a sweeping statement. you are likely jealous to NOT make it into local U, and trying to put local uni grads down as much as you are trying hard to defend local U ppl putting non-local U ppl down.

why not make more sweeping correlation statements?

if i am the boss, i will def go for the sim grad as they are more street smart and entrepruner and know how to get things done compare to the local grads who are more taking exams good.

I think both sides should avoid generalising whether SIM or local U grads are better or worse. At the end of the day, a degree is basically a Job referral letter, proving to your potential employers that you have the qualifications and attitude necessary to work in their company/department.

Different people have different skills sets that others might not have. A person that is trained as an Engineer at NTU might not have the same amount of interpersonal communications training a SIM grad receive in his course. Similarly, a fresh grad from SMU with a 2nd lower class degree might be more hard-working and more well suited to the job than a 1st class grad from SIM.

Building a strawman doesn't really help anyone's argument in this debate. It is dumb to form value judgement on grads based on the worst performer from SIM and local Universities. Do not let our prejudice influence our judgement. It's a poor way of judging people's capabilities.

I agree that it's a poor way of judging people's capabilities, but it's the most logical way to judge fresh graduates with no working experience thus far. Of course judging by the degree itself cannot tell a full story; hence the need to understand the applicant's academic history from primary all the way to tertiary education. Employers will also look into your CCAs, internship, and any other involvement of activities outside of schoolwork. It is possible to draft a fairly clear picture of the applicant once you've all these information.

if the salary is real, it explains why employers prefer FTs.
