Out of business, out of job & out of luck, Need Advice!

I was in the same situation once about 8 or 9 years ago. I quitted because I was working for this boss that misunderstood me and because of her insecurity, tried all ways to get me out. Fortunately, I saw it coming and got a job and quitted.

I am now in my 40s. I can sense the same situation happening to me. Given that I am now older, it is different from the time 8 or 9 years ago. Can I still get another job before I quit?

On 2 rare given job interviews, they asked less than 5 questions and the whole session ended less than 5-7 minutes. I was thinking my age & unsuccessful business venture could be a deterring factor.

At the age of 39, I am totally lost. Life has lost its color and I don't really wish to end up to be a taxi driver as I don't wish to disappoint my unknowing aging parent.

what about giving tuition or going into teaching? after my A-levels (i had quite good results) i could earn close to 3K a month as a private tutor. those were rates more than 10 years ago, i'm sure it's much higher now. insurance is also an option. i have a friend who is a full-time agent and doing quite well

How do you get students?

I'm interested in starting group tuition, but I've only gotten individual 1-on-1 home tuition cases.

Start with one on one, then ask if your student can refer you to their friends

Cant believe so many will pay alot money to go to these forums.

It's always very profitable to sell "Hope" ( which in essence is just an optimistic possibility that might never happen) which is zero cost and then charge people thousands for it... The people who sell these get rich seminars/ training/mlm/etc will really be the actual ones that will get rich instead the people whom they are "trying to help".... They re really helping themselves to your hard-earn money or your last few desperate dollars of savings... The poor and desperate are just their potential business opportunities ( naive suckers) to be exploited and and squeeze money out from... They get richer at your expense.... Wake up people... they make them more wealthy anymore...

Sorry to hear that. The economy and your age is going to make things much tougher this time around. Unless, of course, you are in a trade that makes you more valuable with time.

I think it is possible but not easy because of his age. It's not really discrimination but you can imagine he has to start from the bottom and supervisors interviewing him are likely to be much younger (late 20s early 30s). It's human nature that they might find it awkward to have someone about 10 years older reporting to them, and coaching him.

I'm just sharing honestly here so that he can manage his expectations. I thought he could try out some consulting companies that look for people with experience and leadership.
