wonder how long it takes for some of the lazy SB/Ministry to decide whether to shortlist or reject

Don't hold your breath.

It takes a few months from interview to offer.

Most agencies only notify the shortlisted.

Try not to use current or previous boss as reference.

It works for maids and should be avoided for others.

You should use friendly work partners for references.

And alert them that they are your references.
