i rmb last time tan jee say said that it's a sunset industry and gov should not support or prop it up

Manufacturing is a very broad term. You need to be specific here.

Manufacturing of high-value/high tech products is still a good industry. Biotech, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals etc are not going anywhere.
