MBA / Masters grads
Any MBA grads to be (2020) here with working exp, care to share how the job hunt has been going amidst the current global economic outlook? I got accepted to one of the M7s but rethinking whether to go... Can anyone currently doing an MBA share their experience? Seems like post-mba opportunities in Sg are quite bleak..

It's for life. You'll have to work like 20 to 30 years. Or until you die. So what is 1 year off.

SG companies and corporate world generally speaking don't like it when they see any sort of gaps in your CV. You can only use the excuse/valid explanation of "I was freelancing and experimenting with my career options during that time" so many times, and 1 year off your career path in SG is a very big deal compared with other countries once you start thinking of compounding pay increments.

I got two gaps on my resume, one about 6 months and the current one about 10 month
Means I am hong gan and might as well book a swim at Macritchie?
Otherwise, how to explain?

you better have a good explanation lor.
i applied for internship a few years back at one of the bulge bracket banks and they kept hounding me to explain my 2 year gap (due to NS) because the HR was located overseas and I had to tell them that conscription is mandatory in SG

Hi, would like some opinion from you guys on the job offers I have so far. The info shared is from what I can gather, not concrete.
1. Micron: Planning Engineer
- Base pay: 4K + AWS + Variable Bonus + OT (Usually plenty if ones want to do)
- The industry and the company is projected to grow
- Promotion for the first few years is fast. first promotion on avg: 1yr
- Increment: 10% normal - 20% if promoted
2. Singtel MAP
- Base Pay: 5k + Variable Bonus (2-6 months)
- The industry is saturated, growth plateaued, but they have fast-growing subsidiaries (like
NCS) which I can forever be part of.
- Promotion is slow, can't find a reference timeline. But heard they have had pay increment
freeze before
- The increments I heard are less than 20%
About me, Engineering grad but do not like the boring back-end life, hate that there are no girls also hahah. I would eventually like to transition into Banking and Finance.

Banking and Finance? Then you should not bother with either.

Hey OP maybe i can chime in with my opinion, was also offered Singtel MAP but specialist track in 2022 - i think one thing we can consider is that the MAP is a graduate program which after all offers better progression as im sure you know we start at a higher grade already. I would say either Singtel is pivoting q well (?) into the tech space which is a boom for sure. Micron as well but do consider that it aint a graduate program as well. After all after the 2 years in Singtel, i heard that u are p much guaranteed a role if u choose to stay on, else, at least you can say you were in a tech industry (?) kinda. just my 2 cents!

No choice brother, I do not have B&F background. Tried the MA programs offered but did not make it through, other than this finexis Advisory which I think is not a good program (to me it seems like they want you to become an FC and hire more FCs, shouldn't even say FC but insurance agents).
I am in between interview rounds for Capital Group early-career associates programs and would definitely take it up if they offer me, no doubt about that haha.
But for now I have these, so getting at least one out of my brain would be good. Will still be looking out for more opportunities anyways.

Thanks mate, and congratulations on your offer. I didn't want to influence the decisions of other singtel MAP candidates hence did not post in the thread haha.
Anyways, do you really think they have a growth opportunity (sincerely asking)? to me their financials for the past 5 years looks very bad, they have gone nowhere and paying more dividend than their earnings, business equity has gone down.
In the time when covid should have a positive impact on their business, they struggled. I think the NCS business has growth and If I choose to go in, I would focus on that.
Also talking to the senior MAP, They really didn't open up on the progression and increments, which worries me a little. But somewhat understandable also cause it was on zoom with a bunch of other candidates also.
But I am actually inclining to towards the MAP as well. If in 4 years they are able to give two bumps @20% pay increase and 10% increment on the other years. It would be great already.
