Default Local or Private Uni degree?

Hey guys!

Currently got offered a place in SIT hospitality business , so i am thinking should i go for SIT which is considered a government uni OR go the SIM- RMIT to study business management or business marketing. Reason being;

SIT business program is more specialized into the hospitality industry, which i am worried if i study this i can only work in this industry (not keen on working on weekends).

Hence the other alternative is SIM-RMIT, as it offers me a more general business degree where i might have more industries to choose from when im going to work.

However! SIT has a better "paper value" as a government uni and i might be able to work in the civil sector and what i learn i may be able to apply it into other industry also. For SIM-RMIT i "heard" it is not really recognized.

*Comparing the modules in SIT(3 years course) i will learn more than in RMIT-SIM (2 years).

1)Do you guys think if i study SIT business course i can only go into that industry when i graduate?

2)And let say if i apply for a management level job outside the hospitality industry, SIT hosp biz degree(Local Uni) or SIM-RMIT biz management degree(Private Uni) would be better?

3) Any advice or comments?

Sorry abit lengthly but hope you can take time out to help me

Thank you very much!:s13:

RMIT is trash, no two ways about it. Why you would even consider a course in RMIT just because it has 'hospitality' is mind boggling.

who says SIT graduates would only work in hospitality line.. as long u can impress the interviewers, chances would be as high as other graduates..

besides, SIT is government renowned so would have a better chance when apply to civil sectors.

RMIT in Australia is like the 2nd class level of university

Ask yourself? What do you think an employer will do when he sees a Irrelevant local U cert and a relevant private U cert? That answers your question. Good day!

1)Do you guys think if i study SIT business course i can only go into that industry when i graduate?

Ans: No. While the course is slanted to the hospitality industry, the concepts that you learn will allow you to learn business management in other industries at a faster pace.

2)And let say if i apply for a management level job outside the hospitality industry, SIT hosp biz degree(Local Uni) or SIM-RMIT biz management degree(Private Uni) would be better?

Ans: SIT. A degree is more than what you learn. With an SIT degree, you signal to employers that you are smarter than SIM-RMIT students. Employers want to hire smart graduates who can learn fast.

3) Any advice or comments?

Ans: You probably will want to work in the hospitality business for awhile after you get your degree before switching into another field.

You can always self-study business management in your free time.

Go to SIT. It's more recognized locally, and no, you will not be stuck in the hospitality . industry.
