Yes, exactly my sentiments. I am the option 2. Annual increment is 2%.. Not much to look forward. Maybe about the bottom 40% of Singaporean median.

路已经走到这里了,只好奋力一搏。
如果“Banking”不行,就回去“Systems”。不要在一棵树上吊死。恭喜恭喜!

Only the HSBC and DB ish still interested. But the HSBC is super the big, 250k staff... dunno when must genocide. DB ish loss 6billion in Q3 - when barclay is still profit 1billon..
maybe DBS still the best!!

Pragmatism an influential function
To TS,
The question always falls back to sustainability;
Family - can you justify loss of income to your loved ones
Status - are you willing to exercise prudence and give up 'face' factor
Investment - are you equipped with ancillary revenue channels to cushion the impact
With such uncertainty, prove your worth to the company and if appreciated, promotions might be visible. Else, take a sabbatical leave to relief your cortisols.
Uncle took the 'blames', 'insults', 'grievances' and 'disfigured' losses and start up a business. Never look backed since but still helped those who did the above 'losses' to me.

You could be doing the same work with same performance, but suddenly you get fired he gets promotion, god knows why. Those who in banking long enough have seen so many times already.
BO is cost centre and pressure to cut cost is forever there. If you really so panicky cannot stand the uncertainty and want job stability and stable increments & bonuses every year, then banking is not for you.

So where does those get retrenched go? Do they continue in the cycle or go else where?

If you have not made a decision, take a look again at the climate.
Not the best time to move.
