Default Verbal reasoning tests for banks

local uni grad here. applied to a bank and was asked to do aptitude tests, one of which is a verbal reasoning test. thought nothing of it at first till i did the practice test and fare badly. went to search for more practice tests online but most of my results are mediocre.

did the actual test, cant complete on time and dun think i have done it well. this sucks cos seriously i dun think i lack verbal reasoning.

1) complete 30 questions in 19 mins, which is quite hard cos there is a passage to read every 2 to 3 questions and you have to think!

2) answer 'yes', 'no' and 'cannot say'. the no and cannot say always seem the same!

any way to tackle and ace it?

Use online sources to find free verbal reasoning tests. Rule of thumb:

True = Passage got say, or directly inferred
Self-explanatory.

False = Contradicts what passage say
Passage say the pen is red, but the question say the pen is the color of the sky on a clear day. Somewhat self explanatory

Cannot Tell = Passage never say, also cannot infer.
Passage say prices of oranges going up. Question ask prices of apples going down? No link... passage nv say apple, the apples dunno drop from sky one...?

My opinion is that your job is not to get 100% correct for these tests but end up only doing 10 questions. So, read the passage and understand what it is saying carefully, then answer the question and depend on the amount of time u have, dont spend more than X second on each question.

For me, if i see the question is not a clear cut true, or false, and I got no time, i will just put cannot tell. Then again, I'm not very smart.

Verbal Reasoning Tests are designed to identify an individual’s level of ability to understand and respond to questions about information provided in a passage of text. A test taker is advised to read a given passage of text and then consider the questions which are presented as statements corresponding to the passage. They are then required to decide whether the statement given is true, false, or whether he or she cannot say, given the information contained in the passage.

A challenge of the verbal reasoning test is adhering solely to the information provided in the passage without using information that you are already familiar with in actual life. However, the instructions provided at the beginning of these assessments make it clear that all answers should be determined soley using the information that is given in the passage of text.

Ensure you are familiar with what is expected from the assessment. Read other content on this site and then move on to reading more complex information such as scientific or journal papers. This will get your mind thinking in the correct way. The next steps will be to get as much practise in as possible so that you can familiarise yourself with what the day will be like. This way you will be relaxed when taking the assessment and more focussed on doing a good job.

Whilst it is argued that practising may not actually improve one’s aptitude or ability, it is however an accepted fact that a lack of familiarity with tests will hinder your performance in an assessment. Practising helps to remove errors due to other interfering factors, and test takers who have practised have a better chance of demonstrating their fullest potential, than those who have not.
