aimless74, the pressure of finding job, support the family is always upon us. If it helps, you should know that many of us experience the same pressure so we are almost in the same boat (though some of us are holding on to jobs - maybe not high-paying). Do not let the pressure get the better of you and sink into depression. The tough time that you are undergoing and the pressure it generates are just a test in life that everyone goes through. You will be a tougher person once you emerge from that funk. Many successful personalities and accomplished individuals has faced the same bleak, or even extreme, situation you are in at some point in their lives.

No quick-fix for this, you just have to keep in your mind and your heart that even in the toughest of times, opportunities always shine to those who recognize them.

hi hopeful73
based on the nick, possible we belong to same age group.
yes i understand what u mean, however with all the burden of increasing cost
and my very young kid (less than 2 yrs) i am feeling stressful
and searching for job and opportunities. what holds me back is the family,
i cant see or let my family suffer with me jobless.
i keep looking out for opportunities but in this bad time, i really dont know where they are when they will appear....

thanks!

Aimless,

No worries, you wont starve in sillypore....just live within your means....if cant find a job, just go to any CDC and ask them for a job match, even if it is 1.5k a month, better than nothing, if all else fail, become tuition teacher. Like the chinese says: ride the cow, look for the horse.

btw, I have 3 kids, my monthly necessity exp (assuming I sell my car, ask my mom look after kids, and I have no maid anyway) shld be around 2k. If both you and wife work...no worries...

Here is singapore especially guys are very much defined by our job and earnings.I do have a job albeit a low paying one.Been doing a lot of thinking over the last few months on my future.Looking to find the breakthrough.am wondering why my peers are doing so much better than me in terms of career.Top civil servants, lawyers, doctors, etc you name it,here they are.You can say I feel very inferior to them in so many ways but i am fortunate to have a wife who doesnt compare me to them. But I really really want to do well in my career but success has eluded me thus far.But I dun give up cos i believe the breakthrough will come eventually. So u please dun give up too.having a great supportive family helps too All the best to you in your future.Cheers!

I am an engineer too graduated in 2000 from NUS electrical engineering 2nd upper honours majoring in microelectronics.
Currently age is 35, started off worked as production engineer in chartered semiconductor, initial pay is high at 2750 per month. The cyclical nature of electronics manufacturing led to 2 retrenchment for past 11 years. Currently working in a new plant, same technical job scope earning $3900 per month.
Feeling the same way like you, similar to my engineering peers from same cohort. Only consolation is that we didnt go hungry, still qualify for BTO flats, and have understanding gf/wife.
