Default Career in Automotive Companies (Audi, BMW etc)

Didn't see a thread about Automotive career hence i decided to start one haha. I always have a passion for cars and am looking into graduate programs offered by the German big 4 (Audi Mercz Volkswagen BMW) but doesn't seem to have any offer for locals.

Hence i was wondering if anyone has any working experience with the automotive industry care to share whats the expected salary as well. I'm interested in either doing Marketing or Product specialist in this field.

Am a retired SPF PO completed my NS and my bond. Last drawn 2.9k+ graduated with SIM degree with 2nd upp hons.

Thanks in advance!!!

I am 100% sure that Mercedes (Daimler) and BMW has graduate programs in Singapore.

I don't think these MNCs are interested in a civil servant mid career private degree profile to join their graduate programs. Sorry, that's the hard truth.

You are better off trying to apply for entry level marketing exec jobs in auto companies. Even then I think it's going to be an uphill battle due to poor economy.

For SIM grads the starting is usually 2.5-2.8k, some higher paying industries like banking might offer 3k but their work life balance is quite bad. Auto industry I expect will be on the lower end like 2.7k and unless you are doing sales, bonus in this industry isn't fantastic either (ard 2.5-3mths inc aws).

Have you quit SPF already? If haven't I think you should just stay there and keep a lookout for opportunities as it will take some time to get an offer.

Have not quit SPF but couldnt stand the job culture any longer. Apparently.. for now i am unable to withstand a pay drop. I would not mine if the HR matches my last drawn salary. If not im really out of options but to join back the public sector and be a farmer..

Not to pour cold water or what, but I think you need to lower your standards a bit.

Your years spent in SPF is not relevant market experience, so you are no different from a fresh hire exp wise. Also I imagine SPF has much better bonus, allowance and benefits compared to most firms in the auto industry.

I don't think you are going to get anything if you insist on matching what you are drawing as a police uniform group now. Public sector is easier said than done as most stat boards and ministries prefer local uni grads even for farmer. FT SIM might have a slim chance in less attractive and smaller stat boards, but if your degree is PT they are not going to offer you as deg grad, which means pay cut also.

End of the day if you find civil service not to your liking and want to come out and learn and potentially move upwards, some sacrifice will be needed. Cannot expect best of both world, esp now with so many uni grads who are unemployed or hanging on to contract jobs.

Hmm yes to the part that you mentioned about SPF bonuses and allowances. I must say that uniform group bonus is very comparable to the finance sector. Currently given the specialist track im in my bonus compiled annually is about 3 to 4 months with variable bonuses of about 0.9 to 1 month equivalent and performance bonus of 1.4 onwards to 3.

I regret but agree with what you said about private degree vs local degree. I'm not too sure about the auto industry in Singapore as well as the prospect thats to come. I'm currently working on strengethening my bank haha so as to prepare for the pay drop that i will be experiencing. This sector i believe may not be the most appealing but it is where i think i would enjoy everyday of my work.

Your pay is in the low side considering that direct entry sgts are already getting about $2.5k upon joining. Your rank is probably Sgt or SSgt? How many years experience do you have in SPF? Seems like your progression is quite slow!

auto industry bonus approx 2 months for the past few years. among the brands that you mentioned in your post, I think volkswagen is the most receptive towards non-local uni grads.
