You would be right. Ministry is better than Stat Board. Why?

Stat board come under Ministry of National Development or some other Ministry.

You rather be further up the chain of command and nearer the policymakers than be down below just taking orders?

All other things equal means, same grad, applying for the same entry level of job, so on.

datou 22-06-2012 04:59 PM

which pays better? US MNCs or the civil service?

MAS economists and risk specialists are very well paid, so dont think Minstry of Finance ppl pay can match them

Do ministries have this?

I don't think so.

if ministries do not have all those flexible benefits, they make it up with a better pay?

ok. let's not talk about well paid stat boards like mas, edb etc and well paid ministries like mfa etc. generally, do ministries have a better pay than stat boards?

Entry pay is pretty much directly correlated to your qualifications. 3.2k is after how many yrs of svc, or is it your entry pay?

How quickly you increase your salary is a barometer of how well you're doing.

I doubled my salary in about 5 years' service, I was an honors grad from a local uni.

sorry to tell you that third class is as good as a pass degree. 3.2k is considered very good already.

any idea why some civil service jobs that i applied over the past month got posted on the website again recruiting new ppl? my online status for those jobs have remained as 'submitted'? i suppose they have not gone thru my application yet if thats the case, but why are they searching for new ppl den? or this might be an indication that i will probably see my status change to 'kept for reference' very soon?

it simply means you are not shortlisted for interview. by right, they should have changed your status to "unsuccessful" but somehow they didn't. anyway, do not look at the status. if you are shortlisted, they will call and email you accordingly.

weird...these jobs were posted a month ago. does it mean that they couldnt find anyone suitable even for those shortlisted?

Unregistered 26-06-2012 08:23 PM

means that all (shortlisted + not shortlisted) are not making the mark. Need to publish the recruitment ads again.

Freshie in a stat board

Hi. I have a friend who just grad from NUS. Studied social science. Was offered 3.9k by a stat board. Job scope = Policy analyst. Is this way above average?

some jobs have been posting on and off since a few months ago. perhaps they really couldn't find someone suitable for the job.

Nowadays, the administors do not bother to change the status becos they want to have the prerogative to call you from reserved list in case their desired ones decided not to take up at final call. In such case, you might just be called up 2-3 months later. But in most cases like this, it mean it's rare chance you will be called.

Another thing is that you might notice the advertisement keeps appearing even you have put in your CV. Those advertisement are automatic on regular interval until it expires.

so far the longest period i've waited to be called up after my application was 3 weeks. shortest was 2 days! guess one can move on if still not getting response after 1 month.

i thought the advertisement will only reappear when the position is still up for grabs? for my case, after i went for the interview, the offer came within 2 weeks, then the advertisement was taken down even before it expires.

so its on a so-called first come first serve basis??? people whu apply close to deadline have a lower chance?

well it will depend on how urgent the position is needed to be filled up. if it was urgent, they will shortlist candidates asap. if not, they might wait till the deadline then begin selecting candidates from the larger pool of candidates.

there was once i saw an opening which i am interested in but i did not apply on the spot thinking i shall wait till it's nearer to the closing date. by the time i want to apply, the position was closed before it expires. i guess they have found a suitable candidate already.

therefore, my advice is apply asap. do not wait till near closing date.

talking about teaching, the demand for teachers is damn high loh! (2500 vacancies according to career@gov) so i believe it should be very easy to become a teacher. no wonder i have so many friends who are teaching.

how do u actually get to know this if one has alr applied for the job? ive got around 10 positions still at 'submitted' status after 3wks to a month. i guess i can expect to move on alr?

in career@gov, each job posting has a "Date Posted" and "Application Deadline". for example the deadline is 27 July, if the job posting was taken down before 27 July, it simply means that the position is taken up right?

actually i have heard candidates being called up 3 months after sending in their application but chances are very low. yes, it's time to move on. keep applying.

lmaohaha 28-06-2012 11:19 AM

if u applied for multiple posts in a single organisation within the same time frame, will the organisation hold multiple interviews for each of the post to assess ur suitability or hold juz a single one to see if u fit the organisation's working culture? i'm concerned that if i screw up the first one or they find that my profile doesnt fit the first post, they may not call me up for subsequent interviews??

are we underpaid??? yes. i was lucky to find a principal who liked me

just sharing.

Are teachers really paid on average $4.8K-5K upon 9 years' experience?
I have the impression they are paid more? How much increment per year?
