actually i am curious about the reason that was given for the recent salary revisision for the lower and middle civil servants. The official reason was that because their salaries lagged behind the market rate (civil servants recieve a letter informing them of their increment and this reason was stated).

However, that would mean that the private sector actually has been earning consistently more since 2008 (year of the last major pay revision for those on the management executive scheme (MXS). Wonder how true is that.

Probably professionals from banking, legal, accounting, consulting...
Definitely not peg against some lowly SMEs or engineering or manufacturing. Otherwise, the pay will be adjusted downwards instead.

ok for CS...

but is very very well if compare to engineering..average engineer in ST engineering getting only 3.7-4.2k after 5 years of exp(with 1 or 2 promotion inc)

4.2k(annual 16-17mth) vs 5.6k(annual 16-17mth)
No work life balance vs most of the time can leave on the dot

see the difference?!?!!?!?

degree engineer in ST on average need to work 13-14 years to hit the 5k mark(with 3 promotion included)
