i reach thru the recent posts and was surprised that MINDEF is cutting salary for fresh grads, perhaps due to market conditions and increased supply of candidates. i was offered approx 3.9k for a pass degree from NTU with NS a few years back(2015). a FCH with NS should getting at least 4.3k during that time.

if you are a FCH NUS with NS, just boldly ask for 4.3-4.5k. im already making 4.8k after 3-4 years, with no promotion. at least if they think you are suitable, you can still nego downwards to your baseline.

I did the psychometric test on 23rd May. I have not received any updates wrt my test. Should I email HR to check or should I wait it out?

csb civil service rarely even considers 2nd lower. it's not even consider "good honours"

Erm..your lack of respect for others and your condescending attitude is detestable. It is the ministry's poor luck to have hired a poor calibre person like you.

Unregistered 10-06-2019 09:17 PM

Are the experience in Mindef transferrable/valued in other govt or private sector?

4 to 5k starting salary may seems attractive at entry level but what about the progression?

You are clearly jealous.........you are just worried that the person got a higher salary than you wth. be helpful. he definitely deserve a higher salary. why not you just tell us what degree you have? then we will know whether your degree is worth 3k upon graduation. you are deceiving yourself....? you know there are ministries that pay 4.6k - 5.1k for fresh graduates. I really feel sad for you, really am. I hope you get pay raise soon.......even low calibre person earns more than your scrub salary......

Oh look, someone else knows another ministry that pays 5k as starting pay. Someone please get the HR to raise the salary of the scrub fella. Progression wise really depends on your CEP. Transferrable or not also depends on what role you take.

progression wise, its quite traditional in the sense that if theres no empty slot above you, you will probably be stuck. for DXOs at least. the 'good' thing is, MINDEF isnt a condusive place for work, the amount of **** is increasing exponentially due to slower budget growth and lack of manpower. its a norm for us to work 1.5 jobs plus 'special' projects. ranking is based on these projects rather than your primary jobs.

skills wise yes. but to specialised areas such as defence industries. ST Eng, Aerospace, Logistics etc. also applicable to some stat boards, eg LTA, SMRT ( private, but we all know better).

DXO scheme has no ROA fyi. If you want to get promoted you must apply for a “new job”

I am someone in one of the premium schemes being paid at the above rates and I can tell you that they certainly dont take 2nd lowers. Also, the CS barely hires 2nd lowers much less pay them 4.6k.

There is honestly no point arguing. I can only tell you that the reason why you are not being paid well is purely because of your degree. Take a look at DSTA my dear friend. If you have friends working there, ask them. A second lower gets you 4.6k... drop your email here and I will forward you my payslip. Quit whining because talk is cheap. Peace out.

Different poster here. This guy above is deluding himself thinking he can get 4.6k for a 2nd lower.

NUS FCH (Information Systems).

50xx

DSO.

Unregistered 12-06-2019 11:09 PM

If you look at the taxable income posted by the tax authority in 2017, a majority of taxpayers' assessable income fall between 30k to 50k. This represents the range that most fresh graduates are getting.

At least 60% of the total tax payers earn less than 100k based on the assessable income.

Unregistered 12-06-2019 11:35 PM

Hey i know this is not SAF uniformed personnel but any idea what is a typical age to reacj a Major rank?

Unregistered 13-06-2019 10:26 AM

Hi anyone who sat for the psychometric test on 22 or 23 May have been contacted by MINDEF yet?

Formerly worked in DSO here and have many friends who are bonded. Heard they got attracted to the 5k starting initially but felt ripped off after because theres no promotion for 5 years and increment is measly 2%. So by 3-4th year its not even high anymore

PS typically hires only candidates with good honours IE 2nd upper and above. 2nd lower is not considered good honours and even if hired, may not be eligible for emplacement to the said scheme.

Don’t know why you’re so proud of your 2nd lower. Basically means you’re incompetent and useless regardless of your major LOL

Unregistered 13-06-2019 11:07 AM

There's a lot of timeline reference from past applicants but it's mostly post PT.

Anyone waited more than 2 weeks before invitation to apply PT assuming you check all the boxes in terms of qualification and experiences ?

Read through the whole thread and saw only 2 that waited more than 2 weeks before receiving PT invite if i remember correctly.

Cheers all

Still waiting too. If it’s been so long, does that mean we weren’t the first choice for the interview? Anyone has a clue?

why are you guys so affected by honours? After two years, no one looks at your degree anymore.

People are too fixated on starting pay and how it will affect your career path if you dont have a good start.

It makes people think this way because civil service still pays according to your degree and whether you served NS

I went for PT in mid April and also have not received interview/rejection. You could give your recruiter(the one that sends you the PT invitation a call). So some possible reasons are you missed the initial interview date or could be the job is taken and they need finalize before informing you to reselect.

CEP and pay is set by honours class. Besides its meritocracy.

At the start yes. Cep changes over time. Even which JC you are from also affects it. Like i said, after 2 years, its all about your performance. Honours doesnt affect anymore because scholarship would totally trump over honours.
