I went for PT on 24th April and just got a call detailing that I was not shortlisted for the jobs I applied for as they already have candidates. HR told me to send in 3 new choices. Just wondering if I should send in applications within the same department or mix it with others (eg. 1 HR job, 1 Comms job). Thanks!

Hi! I think you should have a mix. Increase your chances just in case your profile is not suitable for a certain department.

i am interested to join DXO i read online that DXO is so specialised that there are little exit options later on, and the prospects are not as good as being in the MX scheme where one can transfer in the service than for DXO to quit-and-rejoin.

Dejected

Been rejected after site preview, offered another position but no news almost 1 week after the interview. From previous replies and personal experience, invitation for site preview will come in usually same day/next day. Is it no hope liao... sigh such a gruelling process.

Hang in there. No guarantee one... There's a dozen reasons why some people get hired within 6 weeks and others get in within 6 months. If you have been waiting for a reply for more than a week, pray hard the first choice candidate reject the offer.

are all graduates emplaced on 'Manager' roles? I see some roles on the website that requires a tertiary qualification titled for 'Assistant Manager'

what's the difference between that and 'Assistant Manager'?

does the pay differ?

Maybe fresh grads are emplaced under AM?

Thanks to both of answered. What are their DX level then? I read that graduates are emplaced under DX9?

Unregistered 15-05-2019 03:01 PM

Is there anyone who went for interview recently? If yes, when did you take your PT and what role did you applied for? TIA!

Unregistered 15-05-2019 09:42 PM

Hi all, I have been reading up on DXO and am interested to join the service. Just wanted to ask any current DXOs: how transferrable are your skills sets not only to the pte sector but also other govt agencies? I heard that DX scheme generally pays better than MX, but strangely it seems that MINDEF doesn't have a good reputation as it should for a Ministry that gets the one of the largest budgets and deals with crucial defence and security.

I wonder why is this so? Is it due to the general negative sentiment of NS, or perhaps the red tape and deadweights?

If I am concerned about better exposure/opportunities and transferrable skill sets, would I be better off applying to other Ministries?

Thanks very much.

Psychological Test.

After applying online, the 1st stage of the selection process is a PT.

If you are new and want to know more, just read the first 100 pages of this thread. The style is still the same.

Psychometric Test. It is a form of assessment if you are applying for manager roles and above (degree holders), they will shortlist you for the PT within 2 weeks from the date you sent in your application. Else, you did not meet their initial cut.

However I tend to disagree that dx9 = CPT, because the salary scale is closer to LTA. However HR insists that one should not cross reference it this way. A DXO is not graded or appraised according to the uniformed regular scheme.

hi do fresh grad get offered dx9b? how much is the starting salary?

how does one get emplaced on dx9s as a fresh grad?

Another threads say that DXO has no progression?? What kind of job is this and why would fresh grad wants to join?

i think it goes by the salary they offer you based on your qualifications. i have seen fresh grads get offered 9B cause they were from foreign U or were female with no honours.

i got 9S as fresh grad with pass with merit local U. male w NS.

Oh thanks for sharing. Do you earn more as a 9S, how curious how much were you paid from as a graduate.

there are so many areas of job scope that im not sure what to tell you. some examples includes HR, finance, IT stuffs. you can google.

not everyone wants to be a engineer, banker or work in a private MNC. they see value in serving the country and do something useful. some value work life balance. some are contented with life. i cant believe i am answering this qn though.. you must live in a shell.

DXO has progression, just not as easy if you are a non-scholar. also to promote, the position above you has to be vacant. im sure this is similar to any company.

it seems like most jobs are like this for farmers in civil service or private sector in general, a position has to be vacant before someone progresses on - otherwise you can up the way to say a Senior Manager in the position at DXO.

i think for most jobs, if changing department would also require an interview. they just don't parachute you there because you want to - that is maybe true for scholars.

Unregistered 21-05-2019 11:24 AM

I have not been called up for an interview yet but instead i received an email stating that they are still processing and will get back to me in 3-4weeks' time.

Able to advise what does this mean since normally they will either call you or reject after the PT?

If you fail PT, you will be made known via email. No rejection means good news.

Sometimes they need to coordinate things like

1. PT results (Psychology Br)
2. Profile selection (Hiring Manager)

As highlighted in earlier posts, either of the following happens at stage 2:

A. hiring managers might want to wait for more applicants before come to interview OR
B. the position you applied is undergoing selection (i.e., you missed the boat to current round if a selection takes place) OR
C. you may have not been shortlisted to interview.

If they subsequently offer a candidate during stage 2B, then you will move down to your 2nd preference, and repeat stages all over onwards. Sometimes if all three choices are exhausted, then they will invite you to apply to other positions

I think just be patient and hope for the best!!

do DXO get free medical (11b) like NSFs in polyclinic and in-camp medical centres?

What they mean is that the DXO scheme doesn't have an ROA unlike other jobs. Your future isnt planned for and you are basically expected to apply for a new job if you want a promotion.

Can be as fast as 1 week and as slow as 1-2 months because HR does not select you. They send your profile to the hiring managers for selection and HR decides when they want to do the interview when they are free

Dx 9-11 you may not have anyone reporting to you. NSF not counted. You may have 10 or none.

Your external title is am M SM, but your internal title is simply officer, or deputy head, or head.

Most roles of DX is not to manage subordinates, but to coordinate with various stakeholders. These stakeholders usually don't report to you, but you will lean on the rank of the person you report to, and play rank to get things done.

SAF has way to many departments and way too many layers due to nuances in procedures. Every simple thing needs minimum 3 approvals and you must know who are these 3 in order to do things fast. Sometimes even the person u want things from don't know who need to approve. Then you must know otherwise its stuck there.

But yes I understand title matters for bragging rights and for re-entering private subsequently.

is there a pay revision after the 1st year probation period or is that the regular MI for civil servants, or both?

if you manage to 'pass' your probation, you will get about a $200 confirmation increment.

MI is separate and will start from April. pro-rated if you have not reached 1 year by April. For your estimate, after in service 3 years, you will probably have an total increase of about 1k, assuming C grades.

Thanks for the information.

Does that mean that when i reach 1 year mark, then my MI will be full 100%?

Say if i join in June, then MI will be 50% prorated since I only worked half the year, and 100% after i pass the 1 year mark?

yes. but i think its counts from April to April. so if you join in June, you will have 10 months of prorated MI.
