I spoke to my manager with regards to this concern. He told me not to come in with the fixated mindset of not being able to extend or continue with my work here after a year else it will affect my morale and work attitude. I feel kind of disillusioned, i took up this job over other perm jobs because hr says the chances of continuation of 1 yr is high and most pple are placed on perm estab. Now i feel cheated, i guess if u r positive and u do what u shld, u shld b fine.

Contract

I understand even for permanent positions, there would be a 1 year or 2 year contract before being converted to permanent basis.

What about for jobs in stat boards that are advertised as being contract in the first place? Such as having a bracket beside that states (6 months contract) or (11 months contract).

My concern for these type of jobs is the conversion rate. Would majority of these kind of contracts just end and the staff being let go or there is also a good chance of conversion for such short contracts?

Those are temporary staff, 90% of the time will not be renewed because it is not a permanent headcount. Whether you are put on perm estab depends on ur work performance and very largely whether there is an accountable headcount. Most will be okay. If the team is downsizing u may be asked to leave

I joined this CS at MX12, on contract basis for a year, subjected to renewal or emplacement to perm scheme after 1yr, thing is i just started work and my colleagues are telling me that no one is irreplacable in the dept and people dont get emplaced to perm status but got their contract renewed for an additional yr instead, some are actually asked to leave (ok only 1 i know). I am wondering does anyone know the percentage of officers converted to perm scheme after a year?

They say it all depends on headcount and sometimes they dont have headcount, previously i was told by Hr normally will get auto emplacement, now i am abit wary...

If you are on a contract that may lead to a permanent position, you are already factored into the headcount. To be emplaced on perm, you need to perform at least up to expectations and fit well into the organisation.

The move from mx11 to mx11a will give you a 250 'promo increment' for moving to a new grade. Therefore 250 divided by 7119 is 3.5%.

Is the promotion from 11 to 11A dependent on salary ceiling? I will be hitting the mx11 ceiling next april - $23 to go. I am worried that i wont get my merit increment if i did not promote to 11A.

So you managed to get $500 increment when you joined stat board B in 2014 and another $900 when you switched to stat board C? Was your salary negotiation process smooth?

Should I take up this Job Offer?

Hi Guys,

Need some help here, 31 yr old this year and been in the Public Service for 4 years.
Recently applied for a Job with another Stat Board and was offered 4.1k (Current Salary 4.1k but having additional allowanceof about $400 due to shift work).

New job doesn't require me to work on shift but rather regular working hours.

Should I take up this job offer?

Its technically a pay cut for me but I get my weekends back and I don't have to work till like 11pm sometimes.

MX - 12 Grade

Am I being underpaid here?

Will they consider my past experience during promotion?

I was told by HR this would be under their Movement Scheme.
Which means bonuses will be paid in full.

How much bonus will u be expecting? How much did u get from your current job?
If there is stagnant or lower annual package, it will not be wise to move unless this new job provides you good prospect. How do u know you do not need to work till 11pm as before?
