Hello! I'm from NUS. I think there's only 1 major local U that offers a specialised degree in Statistics, so there you go!

I'm still looking at options, so, not so much sure as to which department/board to join.

No increment when changing job

Hi all,

Wonder whether anyone of you encounter this recently? I'm currently working in a Ministry then I went to a few job interviews in other Ministries yet all of them actually offer me back the same salary package I'm drawing now. Is it because PSD is discouraging people from "hopping" from one Ministry to another?

Well, yes. Kind of. The thing is, Singaporeans like to job hop. And honestly, I think its stupid. You hop from one place to another, but what did you do? Was there any value added to you? If there is no added value, why must I pay you more? Just because you want to get a new job somewhere else does not warrant an increase in salary. And if government monies is given to people just because they hop here and there, but the person is still the same, what for? Government money is supposed to be used to hire quality employees. The won't give you more money just because you hop around. They will give you more money if you are worth more. That is all. And with the job market being quite unstable and competitive with foreigners in private companies, there is quite a long queue for govt jobs.

I'm graduating this year from a local U, possibly getting 2nd-upper to 1st Class Honours with a Statistics degree. Male, has served NS.

As I am still exploring my options, does anybody know what's the average/median starting pay for such a qualification in the public service?

Thanks!

I graduated in 2013 and joined a statboard as a Mechanical Engineer. Had a 1st Class in Mechanical Engineering from NUS. Was offered $40XX for male with NS and after confirmation was given another 4% increment to ~$4200. Also received offers from big MNCs ranging from $3200-$3600.

Public service is good in the sense that every year you get your $200+ increment and 4.5 months bonus. No need work too hard.

Isit the norm to join a SB as mx12 for a fresh grad? Non professional degree.
Followed this thread and realised that fresh grad join as mx13.
But pay offered is a fresh grad pay despite mx12 grading.

within ministry is considered as transfer. SB to SB is a different story, can get better increment.
