Hi

Yup I am from the June 2008 graduating batch. Degree in Engineering. Was also fortunate to have the 10% pay adjustment announced in Feb 2012.

I think compared to my peers especially those in civil service, I am considered lucky. Currently is more like evaluating or on the crossroad, to contemplate whether should I continue on or maybe should try out private sector or even do some small business if possible. I know this is getting out of comfort zone and a risky trade, considering the economic uncertainty now. Well if not, I will just continue to stay in civil service and 'farm' my way.

Hope to hear some of your views. Thanks.

what is the promotional increment from MX12 to MX11?

Without a promotion, the MI for MX12 is roughly 204 for C graders and 244 for B graders....

Personally I would say that getting a promotion within 3 years is very good, or you have been lucky to be in the right place at the right time. That's assuming you didn't come in at MX13 and been "promoted" to MX12.

Take a look at the cohort who joined at the same time as you, whether they have been promoted like you have? Every organization's progress is different.

Just wanted to have a sense of where I stand in terms of civil service and possibly the path ahead.

Current Age : 29
Year joined stat board : Mid 2009
Entry salary: Around $3400 (with 1 year working experience)
Current salary: Around $5.5k (includes 1 promotion)
Degree: 2nd upper honours

Just to check in terms of current market rate and potential, how am I faring?

Thanks.

Isn't it sound very much like the same recent "super" grad that keep trolling this forum?

base on the information he provide:

he should be a B grader consecutively(+8.8% each) for 3 years in stat board with 1 promotion(+15%), and the feb +10% wage adjustment.

3400x(1.088^3)x1.15x1.1 = ~5539, close to 5.5k

Does my hypothesis make any sense ?

Not surprised that starting pay has risen a bit since I joined Civil Service in Aug 2007.

Back then, I had already worked for about 2 years in a Stat Board before joining Ministry as a MX13 at $3050/mth. Thought it was ok then as I only had a pass degree from Aussie uni. I took a peek at a fresh grad's offer (with honours) from local Uni and he got $2800. Think fresh honours grads these days are earning around $3000-$3500.

For me, I got my MX12 in 2008 and then MX11 in 2011. By the way, it's pretty common for officers who are less than 30 years old and have gotten their MX11 after 3-5 years of service. Their pay is more or less than mine which is about $5000-$5800. As what some forumers have mentioned, the salary figures are not that wide-ranging.

Please bear in mine that MX officers are generalist. Meaning, you pick up the necessary skills as you work. I've had 3 postings in 4 years and will be posted again in 2-3 months time. Most will not have my kind of journey but there are always exception if you know the system well enough :)

it's 15% when i was promoted to MX11.

they don't tell u the breakdown but can estimate a bit -- Promotion increment (7%) + Merit Increment (8%-B grade) = 15% increase in pay.

Unregistered 06-06-2012 10:31 PM

15% is quite alot. Would u mind disclosing how much u are drawing now?
