MOE TA, FCH, Male who has served NS.

Does anyone know the rough estimate for CT and NIE period? Also, are we entitled to any bonuses during this period (CT and NIE)?

3500 bsaed on the most recent batch. you will be GEO2 during CT then promoted to GEO3 thereafter.

Would it be more prudent to suggest to STU to lobby for this instead?

On the one hand, I can empathise with not wanting to pay for an unused month of parking.

On the other, it seems really calculative to write in to a minister to ask about this when all over the country, businesses are suffering, people are losing jobs, and MOE itself is still working out details of an entire shift of operational procedure for Term 3.

Even if I were that hard up for the carpark fees… I don't think it's particularly wise to send an email as a named individual straight to the top, yah?

Is there such a thing called chain of command in moe?

Teacher -> SH/LH -> HOD -> VP -> P -> Supt -> ZD -> DOS -> DGE -> 2PS -> PS -> political leaders

There are so many layers between teachers and the top, the red tape is so thick it is almost a license to pretend they can't hear us screaming.

Only LHY could do that, he emailed to the Defence minister back then and cc almost the entire SAF.

The promotion won't come so soon. It will only come after completing contract teaching, graduating from NIE with PGDE, then confirmation after 1 year of trained service. The promotion will then come in the following promotion exercise (after confirmation). The boy still has some ways to go.

Literally only $150 of unused season parking fees. One month's worth of the C grade merit increment is enough to cover this. Agree with you, no need to overreact like babies and email the minister.

GEO2 to GEO3 default after 1 year of svc
GEO3 to GEO4 can be 2-many years.
If 2 years you need two Bs
It also depends on your CEP and how competitive in your school.

Two Bs is not necessary. Two young officers in my place of work got their GEO4s exactly two years after their cohort promotion to GEO3. One of them (non-scholar) had a C and then a B, the other (local scholar) had a C+ and then a B.

It is entirely based on two things - CEP, and whether the panel feels like pushing for promotions.

Panel does not make decisions pertaining to promotion. They only discuss and decide on the performance grade and review CEP when necessary. The RO and SLs hold the deciding power, with a lot more authority given to the latter.

Ye Kung your buddy? As a teacher, the more you will need to role model respect. Mr Ong, minister Ong, or even education minister would be more apt. Imagine your student calling you by your name...and please don't act ang mo and tell me that it is fine with you.

If you can't afford the one month of parking fee then don't drive. If you are simply being calculative, write to forums and email all channels with your name in bold.

How does one go about applying for an in-service Masters (preferable with sponsorship?)
How beneficial would the Master's be for career progession nowadays?

Which yr were they promoted?

Somewhat beneficial if directly related to job function, e.g. someone aspiring to be a curriculum specialist going to get a MEd in Curriculum/policy etc.

Not beneficial at all if only loosely related, or not related, to job function.

If you are currently in service, you will need to look at professional development leave or Postgraduate Award/Postgraduate Scholarship (PGA/PGS). Can go HR online to see. Emails are also sent every year. Inform your RO and SLs/section heads early about your intentions.

They’re both female as Cohort promotion to GEO3 was in April 2017 and not in October? Perhaps they got a B in 2017 as well (for year of assessment 2016), which will make 2Bs in 3 years?

Are there many officers with CEP at the KP level but did not attain it in the end?

Unregistered 11-05-2020 07:56 PM

anyone knows if it is possible to change subjects taught?

Anyone has experience or heard of any successful cases and how they managed to do it?

This is a tough question to answer because, if an officer has a CEP within the SEO grades or beyond, usually:

1. if he/she is deemed to not be capable of performing in a KP role, their CEP will be downgraded;

2. if he/she expresses his/her disinterest in taking up KP appointments, or advancing to any other SEO-estab position, perhaps due to personal reasons or change in aspirations, their CEP will be downgraded.

Yes possible, but the only successful cases I know were by invitation (niche subjects, lack of teachers).

How long does it take for MOE/NIE to offer? I applied in August 2019 and went for all the interviews and medical from Sep-Feb but no news. The pre-NIE teaching experience is supposed to be in June 2020. Is there a delay due to COVID?

Unregistered 13-05-2020 03:26 PM

i have been rejected by MOE.

Unregistered 13-05-2020 03:29 PM

i don't even know why I am trying, it is sad to hear about applicants who see teaching as a backup got in but those who are passionate about it does not

Just because teaching is a 2nd or 3rd career choice doesn't mean that person will definitely be a lousy teacher with no passion. Sometimes that's the case, but other times the person will grow into the role and become just as good.

It only means that they did well enough in their studies and/or in their past career(s), they have a strong portfolio and CV, which gives them a buffet of opportunities, and the bargaining power to choose their next steps. That's just a fact of life.

Honestly, i would think just be confident abt yourself and it’s important to be like you know what you are doing and are in control of the situation at all times. I don’t think there is any right answer for this since the panel may not always be the same people. Ultimately, the interviewers are just giving you a teaser of what may to come when you sign up for teaching. If you are not able to control 3 or 4 of them, i don’t think u are ready to take care of 30-40 of real students. Just my opinion.

During interview probably only facing 3-4 interviewers who act as students, this part only lasts about 5 min. You may want to consider tuition centres because they have smaller class size

I agree. If you can't handle a small group, then you are not ready to handle a full class in school

If i got offered MOE/NIE PGDE but reject it without accepting, will I be blacklisted? Will this affect my future applications to MOE teaching service in the future?

Because I'm not sure if teaching is the career for me at this point in time, although I enjoy it.

This is the reason for contract teaching before enrolling into NIE so as to confirm if you really want this job. If you don't want it when contract teaching ends, you can leave without any penalty.

Don't think you will be blacklisted, but generally it will become more and more difficult to get in the future because of low birth rate = less students = lesser new teachers needed.

It will affect. Cos my friend told me subsequently when he allowed. He was short listed again. But the interviewers brought his old file out and reference it to the questions that were asked and the answers.

Needless to say, he was not successful. Future attempts, he wasn't even short listed thereafter. -

I only managed to get shortlisted twice. After failing interview second time, cannot get shortlisted again
